ABSTRACT Habitat restoration may protect brown trout (Salmo trutta) populations from loss of genetic diversity by increasing environmental carrying capacity and, consequently, population size. However, the accompanying release of hatchery‐reared fish may threaten the genetic integrity of native populations through introgression.

An Updated Ecology of Atlantic Salmon (Salmo salar) at Sea
ABSTRACT Atlantic salmon have had a key role in European and North American oceans and human societies. Salmon are exploited and observed in rivers and along coasts, but there has always been great interest in knowing where salmon are going when they are at sea.

ABSTRACT The global value of wool from coarse woolled sheep continues to decline, prompting producers to seek alternatives that reduce or eliminate the need for shearing. Several sheep breeds naturally shed their fleece in response to photoperiod, and these breeds are being crossed with populations that have high genetic merit for traits such as ...

Cytogenetic and molecular characterization of B-genome introgression lines of Brassica napus L. [PDF]
Brassica napus introgression lines (ILs), having B-genome segments from B. carinata, were assessed genetically for extent of introgression and phenotypically for siliqua shatter resistance.

ABSTRACT Fleece shedding is becoming an increasingly important trait in sheep production systems focused on meat and dairy, where wool has limited economic value and reducing shearing costs is desirable. For inclusion in breeding programmes, a trait must exhibit genetic variation, sufficient heritability, and have well‐defined relationships with other ...

ABSTRACT The Tephritidae family, or true fruit flies, comprises approximately 250 species recognized as economically significant due to their capacity to infest commercial fruits. These pests pose serious threats to both food security and trade, and are considered quarantine pests in areas where they are not yet established. In the European Union (EU),

Abstract Triploidy is an effective tool for producing sterile fishes but often results in impaired performance in commercial aquaculture. In light of this, our study compared the physiological response to exhaustive exercise in juvenile diploid and triploid Arctic charr Salvelinus alpinus, a polar species with great potential for aquaculture.
