Vicariance and dispersal in the Aegean Archipelago: Molecular phylogeography reveals the origin and divergence times of Hydropsyche (Trichoptera: Hydropsychidae) species

open access: yesJournal of Systematics and Evolution, EarlyView.
Divergence times of Greek Hydropsyche lineages fall mostly within the Pliocene‐Pleistocene, rejecting ancient vicariance. Widespread species show shallow divergences consistent with dispersal, while island endemics exhibit deeper isolation patterns supporting a mixed vicariance‐dispersal model.

SDS-PAGE patterns of the HMW-GS extracted from seeds of the introgression lines, their parents and wheat variety Emai 18.

open access: yes, 2013
The endogenous HMW subunits 1Ax1, 1Dx2, 1Bx7, 1By9 and 1Dy12 are indicated by the number 1, 2, 7, 9 and 12, respectively. The endogenous subunit pairs 1Bx14+1By15 and 1Bx17+1By18 are indicated by the number 14+15 and 17+18.

Patent landscape analysis of inventions based on plant genetic resources for food and agriculture and related digital sequence information

open access: yesThe Journal of World Intellectual Property, EarlyView.
Abstract This article provides an overview of the patent landscape in relation to PGRFA‐based inventions involving naturally occurring (“native”) traits and related Digital Sequence Information/Genetic Sequence Data (DSI/GSD). In particular, it focuses on the potential of patent claims to limit others' uses of PGRFA and related DSI/GSD on which the ...

Development of Gossypium hirsutum–Gossypium raimondii introgression lines and their use in QTL mapping of agricultural traits

open access: yesJournal of Integrative Agriculture
Gossypium raimondii (2n=2x=26, D5), an untapped wild species, is the putative progenitor of the D-subgenome of G. hirsutum (2n=4x=52, AD1), an extensively cultivated species. Here, we developed a G. hirsutum (recipient)–G. raimondii (donor) introgression

Field generation of triparental sugar beet plants through polyspermy‐induced three‐parent breeding

open access: yesNew Phytologist, EarlyView.
Polyspermy, the fertilization of an egg by two sperm cells, can generate viable triparental offspring in the model plant Arabidopsis thaliana. To explore the potential for three‐parent breeding in a crop species, male‐sterile sugar beet plants were grown alongside genetically distinct pollen donors carrying dominant, traceable selection markers ...

Harnessing genetic variation for grain quality from diverse wheat landraces

open access: yesNew Phytologist, EarlyView.
Grain protein content is usually measured on bulk samples, hiding variation between individual grains. We used hyperspectral imaging to predict protein in c. 15 000 single grains from over 500 Watkins wheat landraces grown in two environments, resolving both mean protein content and grain‐to‐grain uniformity.
