Factors Affecting Immune Reconstitution Post‐Allogeneic HSCT in Children: The Case for an Individualized Approach to Vaccination

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Haematology, Volume 116, Issue 4, Page 336-349, April 2026.
ABSTRACT Allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) is increasingly used to treat malignant and non‐malignant diseases. Following allogeneic HSCT, patients are particularly vulnerable to vaccine‐preventable diseases (VPD) because conditioning depletes immune cells, including memory cells.

Invasive meningococcal disease and HIV coinfection

open access: yesCommunicable Diseases Intelligence, 2001
Three cases of meningococcal disease which occurred over a 3 year period in HIV-infected people living in the Wentworth Health Area of Sydney, Australia, are described. None of the 3 had ever received antiretroviral therapy which may have contributed to development of invasive meningococcal disease. Commun Dis Intell 2001;25:278-279.

Epidemiology of invasive meningococcal disease in France in 2003

open access: yesEurosurveillance, 2005
National surveillance of invasive meningococcal disease (IMD) is based on mandatory reporting. The case definition for surveillance notification was changed in mid-2002 to include cases without microbiological confirmation. The IMD alert detection system was enhanced in 2003 with daily reporting and weekly analysis by district, serogroup, and age ...

Complement Inhibition Therapy in Myasthenic Crisis—A Multicentre Retrospective Analysis of 17 Cases From Germany

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Neurology, Volume 33, Issue 4, April 2026.
C5‐inhibition may represent an effective adjunctive treatment in therapy‐refractory myasthenic crisis, including thymoma‐associated MG (TAMG). ABSTRACT Introduction Generalized myasthenia gravis (gMG) may progress to life‐threatening myasthenic crises (MC) requiring mechanical ventilation.

Global Meningococcal Initiative: guidelines for diagnosis and confirmation of invasive meningococcal disease [PDF]

open access: yesEpidemiology and Infection, 2016
SUMMARYThe Global Meningococcal Initiative (GMI) is an international group of scientists and clinicians with recognized expertise in meningococcal disease including microbiology, immunology, epidemiology, public health and vaccinology. The GMI was established to promote the global prevention of meningococcal disease through education, research and ...

Dynamics of the CD9 interactome during bacterial infection of epithelial cells by proximity labelling proteomics

open access: yesThe FEBS Journal, Volume 293, Issue 8, Page 2225-2247, April 2026.
We describe the CD9 interactome in epithelial cells for the first time. The interactome is diverse and dynamic and changes dependent on infection with specific bacteria. We validate these data by showing functional interaction between CD9 with CD44 or CD147. We therefore demonstrate that CD9 is a universal organiser of bacterial adhesion platforms able

Application of Causal Inference to Establish Assay Effect in the Absence of a Bridging Study: A Case Study of MenACWY‐CRM Conjugate Vaccine Data

open access: yesPharmaceutical Statistics, Volume 25, Issue 2, March/April 2026.
ABSTRACT During a vaccine development program, if the assay used to measure immunological endpoints is changed, ideally, a bridging study is performed to establish the relationship between results obtained with the new and previous assay. However, this is not always feasible, and when bridging study data are absent, this can limit the ability to use ...

Spatiotemporal Analysis of Invasive Meningococcal Disease, Germany

open access: yesEmerging Infectious Diseases, 2006
Meningococci can cause clusters of disease. Specimens from 1,616 patients in Germany obtained over 42 months were typed by serogrouping and sequence typing of PorA and FetA and yielded a highly diverse dataset (Simpson's index 0.963). A retrospective spatiotemporal scan statistic (SaTScan) was applied in an automated fashion to identify clusters for ...

Association of secondhand smoke exposure with pediatric invasive bacterial disease and bacterial carriage: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

open access: yesPLoS Medicine, 2010
BackgroundA number of epidemiologic studies have observed an association between secondhand smoke (SHS) exposure and pediatric invasive bacterial disease (IBD) but the evidence has not been systematically reviewed.
