Animals utilize conserved mechanisms to regulate oxidative stress. The C. elegans SKN-1 protein is homologous to the vertebrate Nrf (NF-E2-related factor) family of cap ’n’ collar (CnC) transcription factors and functions as a core regulator of ...

Combining Transfer of TTF-1 and Pax-8 Gene: a Potential Strategy to Promote Radioiodine Therapy of Thyroid Carcinoma [PDF]
Cotransfer of TTF-1 and Pax-8 gene to tumor cells, resulting in the reexpression of iodide metabolism-associated proteins, such as sodium iodide symporter (NIS), thyroglobulin (Tg), thyroperoxidase (TPO), offers the possibility of radioiodine therapy to ...

Study of ${\rm CdI_2}$ nanocrystals dispersed in amorphous ${\rm Sb_2S_3}$ matrix
Crystalline nanoparticles of cadmium iodide where suspended in the amorphous matrix of antimony trisulphide. Both materials are layered structured and have large band-gaps however cadmium iodide exhibits polytypism, i.e.

Iridium complexes bearing a PNP ligand, favoring facile C(sp^3)–H bond cleavage [PDF]
Hydrogen iodide is lost upon reaction of PNP with IrI_3, where PNP = 2,6-bis-(di-t-butylphosphinomethyl)pyridine to give crystallographically characterized Ir(PNP)*(I)_2, which reacts with H_2 to give Ir(PNP)(H)(I)_2.

Dimethyl fumarate (DMF) reduces growth of HPV‐positive cervical cancer spheroids and induces ferroptosis in cervical cancer cells via blocking SLC7A11/Glutathione (GSH) axis. Combination of subcytotoxic doses of DMF and cisplatin (CDDP) further suppresses spheroid growth and drives cell death in 2D culture models.

Glioma cells mainly express the endothelin receptor EDNRB, while EDNRA is restricted to a perivascular tumor subpopulation. Endothelin signaling reduces glioma cell proliferation while promoting migration and a proneural‐to‐mesenchymal transition associated with poor prognosis. This pathway activates Ca2+, K+, ERK, and STAT3 signalings and is regulated

Quantification of propidium iodide delivery with millisecond electric pulses: A model study [PDF]
A model study of propidium iodide delivery with millisecond electric pulses is presented; this work is a companion of the experimental efforts by Sadik et al. [1].

A role for the small GTPases RAC1 and RAC1b in the modulation of NIS expression: potentiation of therapy with radioactive iodine in differentiated thyroid carcinoma [PDF]
Introduction or Background: The Sodium Iodide Symporter (NIS) is responsible for active transport of iodide into thyroid follicular cells. The retention of its functional expression in most of the well-differentiated thyroid carcinomas (DTCs) enables ...

We analyze cisplatin–DNA adducts (CDAs) and double‐strand breaks (DSBs) in a cell‐cycle‐dependent manner. We find that CDAs form similarly across all cell cycle phases. DSBs arise only in S‐phase. CDAs might not directly impair DSB repair, but S‐phase DSB lesions evolve in the presence of CDAs and disrupt repair in G2, also causing radiosensitization ...

NFE2-Related transcription factor 2 coordinates antioxidant defense with thyroglobulin production and iodination in the thyroid gland [PDF]
Background: The thyroid gland has a special relationship with oxidative stress. While generation of oxidative substances is part of normal iodide metabolism during thyroid hormone synthesis, the gland must also defend itself against excessive oxidation ...
