In 1984 the Societe Francaise d’Endocrinologie launched in France a study of the goiter prevalence in school pupils between 10 to 14 years old. This study was conducted between 1984 and 1986 in 13 over 25 educational districts (academies) and included clinical examination and measurement of urinary iodide content1.
