Flexible Chemiresistive Chitosan‐Glycerol Sensors on Laser‐Induced Graphene Electrodes for Room‐Temperature Ammonia Detection

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
Flexible Chitosan‐glycerol sensor integrated with porous laser‐induced graphene (LIG) electrodes enable room‐temperature chemiresistive detection of ammonia (NH3) and proof‐of‐concept detection of fish spoilage. ABSTRACT We report a metal‐free sensor platform combining laser induced graphene (LIG) electrodes with drop‐deposited, glycerol‐plasticized ...

Enhancing Small Molecule Sensing With Aptameric Functionalized Nano Devices

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
Unveiling an ultra‐sensitive, non‐invasive neurotransmitter sensor. For the first time, a nanoscale sensor for detecting an important neurotransmitter was demonstrated using micro‐electromechanical systems (MEMS) technology. Our approach utilized field‐effect transistor (FET)‐based readout to enable pico‐molar detection of biomarkers in sweat.

Ion Selectivity and Gating in the NAK Channel

open access: yes, 2009
Ion selectivity and gating are two fundamental properties central to proper physiological functioning of ion channels. In this work, a thorough structural characterization of ion binding profiles is presented for the NaK channel, a non selective cation ...

NOMPC ion channel hinge forms a gating spring that initiates mechanosensation

open access: yes
The sensation of mechanical stimuli is initiated by elastic gating springs that pull open mechanosensory transduction channels. Searches for gating springs have focused on force-conveying protein tethers such as the amino-terminal ankyrin tether of the ...

Understanding Interfacial Photoswitching Mechanisms in Atomically‐Thin TMD‐Spiropyran Hybrids

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
Photochromic molecules can effectively modulate the optoelectronic properties of atomically thin transition metal dichalcogenide semiconductors. Spiropyran that switches its chemical configuration upon alternating UV and visible irradiation enables light‐programmable optoelectronic devices.

Biodegradable Wireless Soil Urea Sensor Using Metamaterial Perfect Absorber for Distributed Deployment in Precision Agriculture

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
In this study, we propose a biodegradable wireless soil urea sensor for precision agriculture. The sensor's electromagnetic response varies depending on the urea concentration, allowing the measurement of relative soil urea concentrations by analyzing the time‐transient electromagnetic response.

The role of intracellular cations in potassium ion channel gating

open access: yes, 2006
The cells that make up living organisms are enclosed by hydrophobic membranes that restrict movement of hydrophilic ions. Movement of mono-atomic ions across these membranes is made possible by ion channels.
