An In Situ Oxidation Strategy for Ti3C2@TiO2 Heterojunction: Narrow‐Band Photodetection and Trace Chromium Ion Determination

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A Ti3C2@TiO2 heterostructure has been successfully fabricated by an in situ oxidation approach. The as‐fabricated Ti3C2@TiO2‐based photodetector exhibits narrow‐spectrum response with excellent stability. It also realizes sensitive Cr(VI) detection in a large concentration range of 10−12–10−6 M with an ultra‐low detection limit of 7.6 × 10−12 M ...

Implications of stochastic ion channel gating and dendritic spine plasticity for neural information processing and storage [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
On short timescales, the brain represents, transmits, and processes information through the electrical activity of its neurons. On long timescales, the brain stores information in the strength of the synaptic connections between its neurons.

Lipid-mediated hydrophobic gating in the BK potassium channel

open access: yesNature Communications
Structures of the large-conductance, calcium-activated potassium (BK) channel in the Ca2+ −bound and Ca2+ −free states have suggested that K+ conduction is not gated via a steric closure of the pore-lining helices of the channel, in contrast to the ...

Structure-based membrane dome mechanism for Piezo mechanosensitivity

open access: yeseLife, 2017
Mechanosensitive ion channels convert external mechanical stimuli into electrochemical signals for critical processes including touch sensation, balance, and cardiovascular regulation. The best understood mechanosensitive channel, MscL, opens a wide pore,

Functional Blood‐Brain Barrier Crossing by Biomimetic M13 Phage Vectors for Targeted Neuronal Delivery

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
This study investigates the M13 bacteriophage as a biomimetic nanovector capable of crossing in vitro models of the blood–brain barrier. By exploiting peculiar transcellular pathways, M13 avoids lysosomal degradation and preserves its structural integrity and functionality.

Cellular Responses to Mechanical Cues Across Scales: From Fundamental Insights to Translational Potential

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
This review examines how cellular behavior is regulated by mechanical cues transmitted through soft biomaterials, from single‐cell mechanosensing to tissue‐level adaptation. It highlights why physiological relevance, rather than model complexity alone, is critical for translational mechanobiology and introduces a scoring framework linking material ...

Structural changes during ion channel gating

open access: yes, 2004
Ion channels are generally multi-subunit complexes, with the ion conduction pathway formed at the subunit interface. In moving between the closed and open states, three structurally distinct channels, represented by the recently determined structures of ...

Motifs in the permeation pathway of connexin channels mediate Ca2+ and voltage sensing.

open access: yesFrontiers in Physiology, 2014
Connexin channels mediate electrical coupling, intercellular molecular signaling and extracellular release of signaling molecules. Connexin proteins assemble intracellularly as hexamers to form plasma membrane hemichannels.

Gellan Gum Fluid Gel System for Controlled‐Delivery of Cytokine‐Licensed MSC‐EVs to Enhance Corneal Repair in Limbal Stem Cell Deficiency

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Gellan gum fluid gel (FG) enables controlled ocular delivery of mesenchymal stromal cell (MSC)‐derived extracellular vesicles (EV). Its shear‐thinning, solid‐liquid‐solid rheology ensures prolonged ocular retention. Sustained MSC‐EV release (∼18% in 6 hrs) supports effective EV ocular delivery.
