Cell surface interactome analysis identifies TSPAN4 as a negative regulator of PD‐L1 in melanoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Using cell surface proximity biotinylation, we identified tetraspanin TSPAN4 within the PD‐L1 interactome of melanoma cells. TSPAN4 negatively regulates PD‐L1 expression and lateral mobility by limiting its interaction with CMTM6 and promoting PD‐L1 degradation.

Numerical Study of Salt Ion Transport in Electromembrane Systems with Ion-Exchange Membranes Having Geometrically Structured Surfaces

open access: yesMathematics
This article is devoted to numerically modeling the effect of the geometric modification of the surfaces of ion-exchange membranes in electromembrane systems (EMSs) on the salt ion transport using a 2D mathematical model of the transport process in the ...

Infrared laser sampling of low volumes combined with shotgun lipidomics reveals lipid markers in palatine tonsil carcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Nanosecond infrared laser (NIRL) low‐volume sampling combined with shotgun lipidomics uncovers distinct lipidome alterations in oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma (OPSCC) of the palatine tonsil. Several lipid species consistently differentiate tumor from healthy tissue, highlighting their potential as diagnostic markers.

Assessment of the Risks Associated with the Handling and Transportation of Air Shipments Containing Lithium-Ion Batteries

open access: yesEnergies
Air transport, in addition to passenger transport, also transports air shipments containing hazardous materials. Hazardous materials include lithium-ion batteries, which can be carried both by passengers and by cargo aircraft.

Targeting p38α in cancer: challenges, opportunities, and emerging strategies

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
p38α normally regulates cellular stress responses and homeostasis and suppresses malignant transformation. In cancer, however, p38α is co‐opted to drive context‐dependent proliferation and dissemination. p38α also supports key functions in cells of the tumor microenvironment, including fibroblasts, myeloid cells, and T lymphocytes.

Ion Transport in Eryptosis, the Suicidal Death of Erythrocytes

open access: yesFrontiers in Cell and Developmental Biology, 2020
Erythrocytes are among the most abundant cells in mammals and are perfectly adapted to their main functions, i.e., the transport of O2 to peripheral tissues and the contribution to CO2 transport to the lungs.

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...

Homologous expression and purification of human HAX‐1 for structural studies

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This research protocol provides detailed instructions for cloning, expressing, and purifying large quantities of the intrinsically disordered human HAX‐1 protein, N‐terminally fused to a cleavable superfolder GFP, from mammalian cells. HAX‐1 is predicted to undergo posttranslational modifications and to interact with membranes, various cellular ...

Low-excitation transport and separation of high-mass-ratio mixed-species ion chains

open access: yesPhysical Review Research
We demonstrate low-excitation transport and separation of two-ion crystals consisting of one ^{9}Be^{+} and one ^{40}Ca^{+} ion, with a high mass ratio of 4.4.
