Integrated Traction and Guidance Control of Independently Rotating Wheelsets in Urban Rail Vehicles Using Flux‐Map‐Based Torque Reference Generation

open access: yesIET Electric Power Applications, Volume 20, Issue 1, January/December 2026.
Independently rotating wheelsets require accurate realization of traction and differential wheel torques under electrical constraints. This paper proposes a hierarchical control framework combining speed PI and LQ‐servo lateral guidance with scaling‐based torque allocation and a flux‐map current reference generator that accounts for DC‐link voltage ...

Heat Transfer Research and Optimisation of Spray Oil Cooling System for IPMSM in EVs

open access: yesIET Electric Power Applications, Volume 20, Issue 1, January/December 2026.
To enhance cooling efficiency in high‐power‐density electric vehicle motors, this study proposes a novel triple‐spray oil cooling structure for winding ends. Using CFD‐thermal coupling and SPEA‐II‐based multi‐objective optimisation, the optimised design reduced maximum motor temperatures by 10%–20% under rated and peak speeds, validated through ...

Varied Switching Frequency PWM Method for Adjustable Maximum Output Voltage High‐Speed IPMSM Drive Systems

open access: yesIET Power Electronics, Volume 19, Issue 1, January/December 2026.
This paper investigates the comparisons of high‐speed flux‐weakening control using two different overmodulation PWM methods: a fixed switching frequency over‐modulation PWM and a variable frequency over‐modulation PWM. Experimental results show that the variable frequency over‐modulation PWM can obtain better performance.

Sensorless finite-control set model predictive control for IPMSM drives [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
This paper investigates the feasibility of a sensorless field oriented control (FOC) combined with a finite control set model predictive current control (FCS-MPC) for an interior permanent magnet synchronous motor (IPMSM).

Robust Deadbeat Predictive Current Control of IPMSM Under Position Sensor‐Less Occasions With Carrier Harmonics Injection

open access: yesIET Power Electronics, Volume 19, Issue 1, January/December 2026.
This paper proposes a robust deadbeat predictive current control method for sensorless IPMSM drives. The method exploits switching‐frequency carrier harmonics to simultaneously estimate motor parameters and rotor position, thereby resolving the rank deficiency issue of model‐based approaches.

A Fuzzy Logic Controller Based Vector Control of IPMSM Drives

open access: yesJournal of Engineering, 2023
This paper explores a fuzzy-logic based speed controller of an interior permanent magnet synchronous motor (IPMSM) drive based on vector control. PI controllers were mostly used in a speed control loop based field oriented control of an IPMSM.

Discussion on "AC Drive Observability Analysis" [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
In the paper by Vaclavek et al. (IEEE Trans. Ind. Electron., vol. 60, no. 8, pp. 3047-3059, Aug. 2013), the local observability of both induction machine and permanent-magnet synchronous machine (PMSM) under motion-sensorless operation is studied.

A Review of Model Predictive Direct Speed Control for PMSMs: Classification, Robustness and Comparative Analysis

open access: yesIET Power Electronics, Volume 19, Issue 1, January/December 2026.
Model Predictive Direct Speed Control (MPDSC), which directly optimizes the rotor speed based on a predictive model, exhibits significantly superior overall performance compared with traditional cascaded controller. This paper presents the first systematic review of MPDSC methods for PMSMs.
