Mechanistic study of IR-780 dye as a potential tumor targeting and drug delivery agent

Biomaterials, 2014
IR-780 iodide, a near-infrared fluorescent heptamethine dye, has been recently characterized to exhibit preferential accumulation property in the mitochondria of tumor cells. In this study, we investigated the possible mechanisms for its tumor selective activity and its potential as a drug delivery carrier.

IR-780-Albumin-Based Nanocarriers Promote Tumor Regression Not Only from Phototherapy but Also by a Nonirradiation Mechanism

ACS Biomaterials Science & Engineering, 2020
IR-780 iodide is a fluorescent dye with optical properties in the near-infrared region that has applications in tumor detection and photothermal/photodynamic therapy. This multifunctional effect led to the development of theranostic nanoparticles with both IR-780 and chemotherapeutic drugs such as docetaxel, doxorubicin, and lonidamine.

Photostability Highly Improved Nanoparticles Based on IR-780 and Negative Charged Copolymer for Enhanced Photothermal Therapy

ACS Biomaterials Science & Engineering, 2018
The development of near-infrared (NIR) dyes with desirable photophysical characteristics for tumor therapy is highly expected at present. In this report, IR-780 iodide was loaded by the mercaptopropionic acid grafted poly(ethylene glycol)-block-poly(ε-caprolactone)-block-poly(allyl glycidyl ether) [mPEG5K-PCL10K-PAGE6 (MPA)] copolymer to form ...

Hydrophobic IR-780 Dye Encapsulated in cRGD-Conjugated Solid Lipid Nanoparticles for NIR Imaging-Guided Photothermal Therapy

ACS Applied Materials & Interfaces, 2017
This is high demand to enhance the accumulation of near-infrared theranostic agents in the tumor region, which is favorable to the effective phototherapy. Compared with indocyanine green (a clinically applied dye), IR-780 iodide possesses higher and more stable fluorescence intensity and can be utilized as an imaging-guided PTT agent with laser ...

IR-780 Loaded Phospholipid Mimicking Homopolymeric Micelles for Near-IR Imaging and Photothermal Therapy of Pancreatic Cancer

ACS Applied Materials & Interfaces, 2016
IR-780 iodide, a near-infrared (near-IR) fluorescent dye, can be utilized as an effective theranostic agent for both imaging and photothermal therapy. However, its lipophilicity limits its further biomedical applications. Herein, we synthesized a phospholipid mimicking amphiphilic homopolymer poly(12-(methacryloyloxy)dodecyl phosphorylcholine) (PMDPC ...

The near-infrared fluorescent dye IR-780 was coupled with cabazitaxel for castration-resistant prostate cancer imaging and therapy

Investigational New Drugs, 2020
A new drug, Caba-780, was synthesized by chemical coupling of the heptamethyl phthalocyanine near-infrared fluorescent (NIRF) dye IR-780 and the paclitaxel-based chemotherapeutic drug cabazitaxel. Then, the potential value of Caba-780 in the diagnosis and treatment of castration-resistant prostate cancer (CRPC) was evaluated.

Preferential accumulation of the near infrared heptamethine dye IR-780 in the mitochondria of drug-resistant lung cancer cells

Biomaterials, 2014
Personalized oncology significantly relies on the development of theranostic agents to integrate cancer therapeutics and diagnostics. Current strategy for development of such multifunctional agents requires multistep chemical conjugation with cancer specific ligands, contrast agents and therapeutic drugs. In this study, we reported a near infrared (NIR)

Electroporation and lipid nanoparticles with cyanine IR-780 and flavonoids as efficient vectors to enhanced drug delivery in colon cancer

Bioelectrochemistry, 2016
Nanocarriers and electroporation (also named electropermeabilization) are convenient methods to increase drug transport. In the current study, we present an effective support of drug delivery into cancer cells, utilizing these methods. We compare the efficiency of each of them and their combination.
