Analysing the significance of small conformational changes and low occupancy states in serial crystallographic data

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This protocol paper outlines methods to establish the success of a time‐resolved serial crystallographic experiment, by means of statistical analysis of timepoint data in reciprocal space and models in real space. We show how to amplify the signal from excited states to visualise structural changes in successful experiments.

Cyclic azapeptide CD36 ligand attenuates cardiac injury and reduces long‐chain fatty acid accumulation after myocardial ischemia–reperfusion in mice

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
In a murine model of myocardial ischemia and reperfusion (MI/R), the CD36 azapeptide ligand MPE‐298 reduces cardiac injury and transiently lowers left ventricular long‐chain fatty acids (LCFAs) accumulation 3 h after reperfusion, accompanied by a decrease of oxidative stress and inflammation‐associated genes' expression in the heart and adipose tissue.

The investigation of the carbon on irradiation hardening and defect clustering in RPV model alloy using ion irradiation and OKMC simulation

open access: yesNuclear Engineering and Technology
The precipitation of solutes is a major cause of irradiation hardening and embrittlement limiting the service life of reactor pressure vessel (RPV) steels. Impurities play a significant role in the formation of precipitation in RPV materials.

The Influence of Helium and ODS on the Irradiation-Induced Hardening of Eurofer97 at 300°C [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
The influence of helium on the mechanical properties of reduced-activation ferritic/martensitic Cr-steels under fusion-relevant irradiation conditions is still a concern. While the fact that He can influence the mechanical properties is well established [

Long‐Term Follow‐Up of Chemotherapy‐Associated Biological Aging in Women With Early Breast Cancer

open access: yesAging and Cancer, EarlyView.
Women threated with adjuvant chemotherapy for early breast cancer have sustained long‐term increase in p16INK4a,, a robust marker of cell senescence, suggesting a chemotherapy‐associated age acceleration. p16INK4a as well as other biomarkers may identify patients at greatest risk for senescence‐related diseases of aging.

Evaluation of irradiation hardening of ion-irradiated V–4Cr–4Ti and V–4Cr–4Ti–0.15Y alloys by nanoindentation techniques [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
0000-0001-6564-8922Irradiation hardening behavior of V–4Cr–4Ti and V–4Cr–4Ti–0.15Y alloys after Cu-ion beam irradiation were investigated with a combination between nanoindentation techniques and finite element method (FEM) analysis.

Long‐Term Efficacy of Immunotherapy in Autoimmune Autonomic Ganglionopathy—A 10‐Year Follow Up Study

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Autoimmune autonomic ganglionopathy (AAG) is a rare but potentially treatable cause of severe autonomic failure. Evidence guiding long‐term immunotherapy, treatment sequencing, and residual autonomic impairment is limited. We evaluated long‐term treatment response, residual autonomic dysfunction, and relapse patterns in patients with

Effects of Transmutation Elements on Neutron Irradiation Hardening of Tungsten [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Tungsten (W) is a candidate material for Plasma facing materials of fusion reactors. During fusion reactor operation, not only irradiation damages but also transmutation elements such as rhenium (Re) and osmium (Os) are produced by neutron irradiation ...

Ion irradiation effects on FeCrAl-ODS ferritic steel

open access: yesNuclear Materials and Energy, 2018
The correlation between microstructure and mechanical property of ion irradiated 12Cr-6Al ODS ferritic steel was studied. Ion irradiation experiments were performed using 10.5 MeV Fe ions up to the nominal displacement damage of 20 dpa with the damage ...
