Exploring Applications of Irreversibility

open access: yesJournal for Peace and Nuclear Disarmament
This is the third and final special issue in this series that engages with the concept of nuclear disarmament irreversibility. The first special issue provided a comprehensive overview of irreversibility, establishing a conceptual foundation for this ...

Reciprocal control of viral infection and phosphoinositide dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Phosphoinositides, although scarce, regulate key cellular processes, including membrane dynamics and signaling. Viruses exploit these lipids to support their entry, replication, assembly, and egress. The central role of phosphoinositides in infection highlights phosphoinositide metabolism as a promising antiviral target.

Les qualités politiques des technologies. Irréversibilité et réversibilité dans la gestion des déchets nucléaires

open access: yesTracés, 2009
Even if it is now acknowledged that techniques are not neutral, few works precisely describe the political properties of these techniques. Based on the example of nuclear waste storage, this paper develops a political sociology of technical devices.

Irreversibility and emergent structure in active matter. [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review E, 2018
Active matter is rapidly becoming a key paradigm of out-of-equilibrium soft matter exhibiting complex collective phenomena, yet the thermodynamics of such systems remain poorly understood.

Structural insights into lacto‐N‐biose I recognition by a family 32 carbohydrate‐binding module from Bifidobacterium bifidum

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Bifidobacterium bifidum establishes symbiosis with infants by metabolizing lacto‐N‐biose I (LNB) from human milk oligosaccharides (HMOs). The extracellular multidomain enzyme LnbB drives this process, releasing LNB via its catalytic glycoside hydrolase family 20 (GH20) lacto‐N‐biosidase domain.

Mechanisms of parasite‐mediated disruption of brain vessels

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Parasites can affect the blood vessels of the brain, often causing serious neurological problems. This review explains how different parasites interact with and disrupt these vessels, what this means for brain health, and why these processes matter. Understanding these mechanisms may help us develop better ways to prevent or treat brain infections in ...

Nicotinamide N‐methyltransferase promotes drug resistance in lung cancer, as revealed by nascent proteomic profiling

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
AZD9291 has shown promise in targeted cancer therapy but is limited by resistance. In this study, we employed metabolic labeling and LC–MS/MS to profile time‐resolved nascent protein perturbations, allowing dynamic tracking of drug‐responsive proteins. We demonstrated that increased NNMT expression is associated with drug resistance, highlighting NNMT ...

Prigogine and Pannenberg: Theological and Scientific Perspectives on Contingency and Irreversibility [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
The author demonstrates how Nobel Laureate Ilya Prigogine\'s pioneering work on dissipative structures and non-equilibrium thermodynamics might be used to answer theological questions about contingency and irreversibility that theologian Wolfhart ...

Optimized Piston Motion for an Alpha-Type Stirling Engine

open access: yesEntropy, 2020
The Stirling engine is one of the most promising devices for the recovery of waste heat. Its power output can be optimized by several means, in particular by an optimized piston motion.

Irreversible multilayer adsorption [PDF]

open access: yesBerichte der Bunsengesellschaft für physikalische Chemie, 1993
AbstractRandom sequential adsorption (RSA) models have been studied [1] due to their relevance to deposition processes on surfaces. The depositing particles are represented by hard‐core extended objects; they are not allowed to overlap. Numerical Monte Carlo studies and analytical considerations are reported for 1D and 2D models of multilayer ...
