Nonthermal Food Processing Technologies: A Comprehensive Review
The graphical abstract illustrates the shift from traditional thermal food preservation methods to advanced nonthermal technologies. Traditional methods, represented by heating, often compromise the nutritional and sensory quality of foods. In contrast, nonthermal approaches such as high‐pressure processing (HPP), pulsed electric field (PEF ...

Irreversible Electroporation in Pancreatic Cancer
Pancreatic cancer is the deadliest of the gastrointestinal tract with 5-year survival rates of less than 5%. Given common asymptomatic early disease course, most patients (50%) present with an already metastatic disease, while only 20% can undergo potentially curative resection.

A messenger molecule governs interdependency in an evolved Pseudomonas aeruginosa biofilm community [PDF]
Biofilm populations are known to harbor great diversity, but the importance of this diversity is not fully understood. A likely contributor to this variation is the second messenger molecule cyclic-di-GMP: low levels associate with a planktonic lifestyle

Background. Irreversible electroporation (IRE) is a tissue ablation method, which relies on the phenomenon of electroporation. When cells are exposed to a sufficiently electric field, the plasma membrane is disrupted and cells undergo an apoptotic or ...

Effects of pulsed electric field on the viscoelastic properties of potato tissue [PDF]
We have investigated whether transient permeabilization caused by the application of pulsed electric field would give rise to transient changes in the potato tissue viscoelastic properties.

Asymptotic Analysis of the Static Bidomain Model for Pulsed Field Cardiac Ablation
ABSTRACT Cardiac arrhythmias are caused by faulty electrical signals in the heart, which lead to chaotic wave propagation and impaired cardiac function. This work focuses on a non‐thermal ablation technique based on electroporation (EP), a promising method for treating arrhythmias, called pulsed field ablation (PFA).

Abiotic Gene Transfer: Rare or Rampant? [PDF]
Phylogenetic studies reveal that horizontal gene transfer (HGT) plays a prominent role in evolution and genetic variability of life. Five biotic mechanisms of HGT among prokaryotic organisms have been extensively characterized: conjugation, competence ...

Targeting a nucleotide‐sensitive groove on Hsp70 that binds the Bim BH3 helix, we integrate structures, biophysics, and SAR from peptides, fragments, and phenalene‐dicarbonitrile “wedges.” These disrupt the Hsp70–Bim complex with sub‐µM cellular engagement and in vivo activity while sparing Hsp90/mortalin.

Irreversible Electroporation in Clinical Practice
This book provides a comprehensive overview of the clinical use of irreversible electroporation (IRE) - better known by its commercial name, NanoKnife - which is one of the most exciting new needle-guided cancer treatments. The coverage includes the history of IRE, general technique, preclinical research, applications in clinical practice and early ...
