Isaacs syndrome: A syndrome of continuous muscle-fiber activity

Neuroscience and Behavioral Physiology, 1981
Within the large group of neuromuscular diseases, in addition to the often-encountered and well-studied diseases there exist rare forms of pathology which are poorly known to the broad circle of practicing physicians. The absence of information concerning these illnesses in textbooks and handbooks leads to difficulties in diagnosis and, consequently ...

Systematic Review of the Clinical Characteristics and Management of Isaac Syndrome

Journal of Clinical Neuromuscular Disease, 2023
Abstract Objectives: Isaac syndrome (IS) is a condition characterized by peripheral nerve hyperexcitability caused by voltage-gated potassium channel (VGKC)-complex antibodies. Muscle twitching, stiffness, hypertrophy, and dysautonomic characteristics, such as hyperhidrosis, are common manifestations. The syndrome can

Isaacs syndrome with laryngeal involvement

Neurology, 1979
A woman with widespread myokymia presented initially at age 19 with hoarseness and mild dyspnea on exertion. The diagnosis of Isaacs syndrome was suggested by the clinical findings of widespread continuous muscle activity and depressed tendon reflexes, although she lacked the usually prominent increased muscle tone.

Isaacs syndrome.

Archives of physical medicine and rehabilitation, 1984
Although Isaacs syndrome is known by several names including neuromyotonia and quantal squander, it bears some resemblence to other syndromes characterized by muscular stiffness such as stiff-man syndrome. The purpose of this paper is to examine pertinent clinical findings about Isaacs syndrome.

Isaacs' Syndrome With Muscle Hypertrophy Reversed by Phenytoin Therapy

Archives of Neurology, 1983
A 16-year-old boy was seen for severe episodic muscle cramps and generalized myokymia, consistent with Isaacs's syndrome. Bilateral calf hypertrophy (46-cm calf circumference) and ankle areflexia were noted. He was treated with phenytoin sodium, 300 mg/day.

Isaacs syndrome with CASPR2 antibody: A series of three cases

Journal of Clinical Neuroscience, 2017
Isaacs syndrome is a form of peripheral nerve hyperexcitability, characterized by spontaneous muscle twitching and stiffness. Some patients are reported to be positive for CASPR2 antibody that may be one of the pathogenic autoantibodies in Isaacs syndrome.

Zhurnal nevropatologii i psikhiatrii imeni S.S. Korsakova (Moscow, Russia : 1952), 1979
Two cases with expressed signs of a permanent muscular tension in the extremities with fasciculation (the Isaacs syndrome) and difficulties in self-service are described.
