The loss of CO and HCN in the fragmentation of isatin and the methyl isatins

Organic Mass Spectrometry, 1971
Abstract3‐13C‐Isatin has been shown to eliminate the 2‐carbonyl group as the initial fragment, followed predominantly by loss of HCN. In 4‐, 5‐and 6‐methyl‐isatin the loss of the second carbonyl group competes evenly with HCN loss, whilst the 7‐methyl isomer fragments almost exclusively by successive loss of two molecules of CO from the molecular ion.

Remote Activation of the Nucleophilicity of Isatin

Organic Letters, 2014
The concept of the remote activation of reactivity was first applied in asymmetric organocatalysis. An isatin 3-phenylimine derivative acts as a donor in the thiourea catalyzed asymmetric addition to unsaturated 1,4-ketoesters, affording aza-Michael adducts in high enantiomeric purity and yield.

Chiroptical Sensing of Amines With Isatins

Chirality
ABSTRACTIsatins are extensively researched compounds with diverse applications, particularly as synthetic precursors in pharmaceutical developments. However, their use as optical probes for enantioselective sensing of chiral amines has not been explored to date. Herein, we present a novel chiroptical assay with an optimized isatin that generates strong,

Condensation of isatin with diketones

Tetrahedron, 1959
Abstract The condensation of isatin with enolisable acyclic and alicylcic 1:3-diketones has been investigated and the structures of the acylated cinchoninic acids obtained have been determined. The condensation of acetonylacetone with potassium isatate is also described.
