Ischemic mitral regurgitation

Coronary Artery Disease, 2011
Secondary or 'functional' mitral regurgitation (MR) is often due to ischemic heart disease that results in disordered left ventricle and mitral valve geometry. In patients with coronary disease, concomitant MR results in worse morbidity and mortality.

Mitral valve repair or replacement for ischemic mitral regurgitation? The Italian Study on the Treatment of Ischemic Mitral Regurgitation (ISTIMIR) [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery, 2013
It is uncertain whether mitral valve replacement is really inferior to mitral valve repair for the treatment of chronic ischemic mitral regurgitation. This multicenter study aimed at providing a contribution to this issue.Of 1006 patients with chronic ischemic mitral regurgitation and impaired left ventricular function (ejection fraction

Ischemic Mitral Regurgitation

Seminars in Cardiothoracic and Vascular Anesthesia, 2006
Ischemic mitral regurgitation is the regurgitation seen with structurally normal valve leaflets that occurs in approximately 20% of patients after myocardial infarction and 56% of patients with congestive heart failure caused by ischemic or nonischemic cardiomyopathy.

Ischemic Mitral Regurgitation

2010
Ischemic mitral regurgitation (IMR) is a functional problem, which results from ischemia of the ventricle. Except in the case of ischemic papillary muscle rupture, the mitral apparatus is anatomically normal and the regurgitation is solely caused by abnormal systolic motion of the ventricle, interfering with the normal closure physiology of the valve ...

Ischemic Mitral Regurgitation: Not Only a Bystander

Current Cardiology Reports, 2011
Ischemic mitral regurgitation (MR) is a common complication of left ventricular (LV) dysfunction related to chronic coronary artery disease. This complex multifactorial disease involves global and regional LV remodeling, as well as dysfunction and distortion of the components of the mitral valve including the chordae, the annulus, and the leaflets. Its

Surgery for Ischemic Mitral Regurgitation

New England Journal of Medicine, 2014
Defining the appropriate management of mitral regurgitation secondary to ischemic heart disease — as opposed to primary disease such as rheumatic or myxomatous degeneration — has proved elusive. Coronary artery disease is common, and so is associated mitral regurgitation, at least to some degree.

Ischemic (Functional) Mitral Regurgitation

Cardiology Clinics, 2013
Mitral regurgitation (MR) is a frequent complication of myocardial infarction and coronary artery disease that is associated with adverse prognosis. The main mechanism of ischemic MR relates to distortion of the spatial relationships between the mitral valve and papillary muscles secondary to ventricular remodeling.

Mitral valve repair in ischemic mitral regurgitation

Multimedia Manual of Cardio-Thoracic Surgery, 2005
Ischemic mitral regurgitation (IMR) is a common complication after acute myocardial infarction due to annulus dilatation and papillary muscles displacement. In our opinion 3/4 and 4/4 IMR have always to be indicated for MV surgery. In presence of low EF and dilated LV, moderate (2/4) IMR has to be corrected.

Mitral Valve Repair for Ischemic Mitral Regurgitation

Angiology, 2008
Our aim was to evaluate midterm results in patients who underwent mitral valve repair (MVR) for ischermic mitral regurgitation (IMR) in our most recent experience. From March 2006 to March 2008, 105 patients underwent MVR for IMR. Mean IMR grade was 2.6 ± 1.1, with 46 patients having ≤2/4 and 59 ≥3/4.
