The effect of isometamidium chloride onTrypanosoma vivax occurring within the insect vector (Glossina)

Zeitschrift fr Parasitenkunde Parasitology Research, 1984
The effect of chemoprophylaxis on developing and mature Trypanosoma vivax in Glossina tachinoides and G. palpalis palpalis was evaluated. Newly emerged G. tachinoides and G.p. palpalis flies were infected with T. vivax by allowing them to feed on parasitaemic animals.

Relapses in dogs experimentally infected with Trypanosoma brucei and treated with diminazene aceturate or isometamidium chloride

Veterinary Parasitology, 1988
Twenty dogs of mixed local East African breeds were used. Five of the dogs were uninfected controls and 15 were infected with T. brucei (ILRAD 273). Five of the infected dogs were untreated controls, five were treated with a high curative dose of diminazene aceturate, (7 mg kg-1 body weight (wt.), and five were given a subcurative dose of isometamidium

Isometamidium Chloride Reduces Mortality of Adult Chinook Salmon due to Cryptobia salmositica

North American Journal of Aquaculture, 2011
Abstract The hemoflagellate protozoan parasite Cryptobia salmositica causes severe mortality during the 2–4-month sexual maturation period of adult spring Chinook salmon Oncorhynchus tshawytscha at the Solduc State Fish Hatchery, Washington.

THE IN VITRO EFFECTS OF ISOMETAMIDIUM CHLORIDE (SAMORIN) ON THE PISCINE HEMOFLAGELLATECRYPTOBIA SALMOSITICA(KINETOPLASTIDA, BODONINA)

Journal of Parasitology, 2001
Isometamidium chloride (Samorin) is therapeutic in rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) during preclinical and chronic cryptobiosis. However, the toxic mechanism of isometamidium on Cryptobia salmositica has not been elucidated. The objective of the present study was to examine the in vitro effects of isometamidium on C. salmositica.

Some observations on the toxicosis of isometamidium chloride (samorin) in camels.

Veterinary and human toxicology, 1986
Healthy camels were experimentally infected with Trypanosoma evansi and then treated with isometamidium chloride (samorin) at single intravenous doses of 0.5 or 1.0 mg/kg. Five to 10 min after the drug administration, the camels at both dosages showed lacrimation, salivation, trembling, restlessness, frequent urination and defecation, followed by ...

The transmissibility of Trypanosoma congolense seems to be associated with its level of resistance to isometamidium chloride

Veterinary Parasitology, 2006
In large parts of Africa the control of livestock trypanosomiasis relies on the use of trypanocidal drugs. Resistance against the available compounds is developing rapidly in the trypanosome population. The effect of the development of drug resistance on the fitness of the trypanosome is not well known.

Assessment of sensitivity of "Trypanosoma congolense" to isometamidium chloride : a comparison of tests using cattle and mice

Acta tropica, 1988
The sensitivities of 3 strains of Trypanosoma congolense to isometamidium chloride (Samorin) were determined in mice and cattle, with the objective of evaluating sensitivity testing in mice as a means of predicting curative doses in cattle. Comparison of mouse effective dose 80% (ED80) or curative dose 80% (CD80) values with cattle minimum curative ...

Comparison of isometamidium chloride and homidium bromide as prophylactic drugs for trypanosomiasis in cattle at Nguruman, Kenya

Acta Tropica, 1995
The duration of prophylaxis provided by isometamidium chloride and homidium bromide, each at a dose rate of 1 mg kg-1 bodyweight, was compared in a 12-month field trial involving groups of 30 zebu cattle in south-west Kenya. The trial took place between February 1990 and February 1991 and included several months of high trypanosome challenge. Cattle in

Pharmacokinetics of the chemoprophylactic and chemotherapeutic trypanocidal drug isometamidium chloride (Samorin) in cattle.

Drug Metabolism and Disposition, 1996
Pharmacokinetics of the prophylactic and therapeutic trypanocidal drug isometamidium chloride were examined comprehensively for the first time in cattle using a recently described, highly sensitive ELISA. Cattle were administered single intravenous (N = 4) or intramuscular (N = 5) doses of isometamidium at a rate of 1.0 mg x kg(-1) body weight ...

A Preliminary Study on the Absorption of Isometamidium Chloride (Samorin) in the Stomach and Small Intestine of Rat

Journal of Chemotherapy, 1993
The levels of absorption of isometamidium chloride (Samorin) in the stomach and intestine of the rat were determined because of problems usually associated with parenteral administration of the drug. The in situ loop method and in situ recirculation technique were used to determine the absorption of the drug in the stomach and intestine respectively ...
