Current studies on microbial isoprene biosynthesis have mostly focused on regulation of the upstream mevalonic acid (MVA) or methyl-erythritol-4-phosphate (MEP) pathway. However, the downstream bottleneck restricting isoprene biosynthesis capacity caused by the weak expression and low activity of plant isoprene synthase (ISPS) under microbial ...

Isoprene is a volatile metabolite of uncertain function in plants, animals, and bacteria. Here, we demonstrate that the isoprene-producing bacterium, Bacillus subtilis, contains an isoprene synthase activity that catalyzes dimethylallyl diphosphate-dependent isoprene formation.

Biochemical properties of isoprene synthase in poplar (Populus × canescens)
Planta, 2005Isoprene synthase (ISPS) catalyzes the elimination of pyrophosphate from dimethylallyl diphosphate (DMADP) forming isoprene, a volatile hydrocarbon emitted from many plant species to the atmosphere. In the present work, immunological techniques were applied to study and localize ISPS in poplar leaves (Populus x canescens).

Many plants emit significant amounts of isoprene, which is hypothesized to help leaves tolerate short episodes of high temperature. Isoprene emission is found in all major groups of land plants including mosses, ferns, gymnosperms, and angiosperms; however, within these groups isoprene emission is variable.

Biochemical characterization of an isoprene synthase from Campylopus introflexus (heath star moss)
Plant Physiology and Biochemistry, 2015Each year, plants emit terragram quantities of the reactive hydrocarbon isoprene (2-methyl-1,3-butadiene) into the earth's atmosphere. In isoprene-emitting plants, the enzyme isoprene synthase (ISPS) catalyzes the production of isoprene from the isoprenoid intermediate dimethylallyl diphosphate (DMADP).

[Advances in isoprene synthase research].
Sheng wu gong cheng xue bao = Chinese journal of biotechnology, 2018Isoprene emission can lead to significant consequence for atmospheric chemistry. In addition, isoprene is a chemical compound for various industrial applications. In the organisms, isoprene is produced by isoprene synthase that eliminates the pyrophosphate from the dimethylallyl diphosphate.

Isoprene synthase activity and its relation to isoprene emission in Quercus robur L. leaves
Plant, Cell & Environment, 1999Pedunculate oak (Quercus robur L.) is known as a strong isoprene (2‐methyl‐1,3‐butadiene) emitter. Diurnal changes in isoprene emission were determined by branch enclosure measurements. In contrast to the diurnal cycle in emission rates, specific isoprene synthase activity in the leaves remained unchanged.

Isoprene, as a versatile bulk chemical, has wide industrial applications. Here, we attempted to improve isoprene biosynthesis in Saccharomyces cerevisiae by simultaneous strengthening of precursor supply and conversion via a combination of pathway compartmentation and protein engineering. At first, a superior isoprene synthase mutant ISPSLN was created
