Effects of isotonic, hypertonic and hypertonic+ isotonic sodium chloride solutions in dogs with edotoxemia

open access: yes, 1996
In this study, effects of isotonic saline solution (JSS-0.9 %), hypertonic saline solution (HSS-7. 2 %) and HSS+ISS were compared in 15 dogs with endotoxemia, which had been formed experimentally. E. coli lypopolysaccarid (E.

Comparative predictive accuracy of machine learning versus traditional statistical methods for diabetes‐related complications: A systematic review and analysis

open access: yesDiabetic Medicine, EarlyView.
This systematic review of 36 studies comparing machine learning with traditional statistical models for predicting diabetes‐related complications found modest discrimination gains with ensemble approaches, particularly random forest and gradient boosting.

Differential extraction of proteoglycans from cartilage tissue matrix compartments in isotonic buffer salt solutions and commercial tissue-culture media.

open access: yes, 1986
Small tissue blocks of native rat growth plate cartilage were incubated for short periods in one of several generally used isotonic buffer salt solutions or commercial tissue-culture media.

Dose–Response Effect of Glucagon on Glucose, Beta‐Cell Secretion and Metabolism in Healthy Individuals

open access: yesDiabetes, Obesity and Metabolism, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Aim Glucagon is a key regulator of glucose and energy metabolism, yet the dose–response effects of glucagon on markers of metabolism in humans are not fully characterised. We investigated the dose‐dependent effects of glucagon on glucose metabolism, β‐cell secretion and markers of hepatic metabolism in healthy adults.

Duodenal stricture and portal gas accumulation secondary to ulcerative, fibronecrotising duodenitis in a foal

open access: yesEquine Veterinary Education, EarlyView.
Summary Gastroduodenal ulcer disease with secondary stricture formation of the proximal duodenum and portal gas accumulation is described in a neonatal foal. Conventional diagnostics were performed to reach a diagnosis, including gastroscopy, ultrasonography and positive contrast radiography. In addition, a post‐mortem CT was acquired with the contrast

Surgical removal of a perirectal melanoma through sphincterotomy and rectal wall resection in a horse

open access: yesEquine Veterinary Education, EarlyView.
Summary Melanomas are among the most frequent neoplasms in grey horses. Deep perirectal melanomas, however, are uncommon and challenging to excise due to their proximity to the peritoneal reflection. This report describes the successful standing removal of a large (16 × 8 × 6 cm) perirectal melanoma firmly adherent to the dorsal rectal wall in a 19 ...

Disruption of iron metabolism resulting from Dmt1/Slc11a2 deficiency compromises Notch protein degradation and transcriptional activation

open access: yesThe FEBS Journal, EarlyView.
Divalent metal transporter 1 (Dmt1) maintains iron homeostasis and lysosomal proteostasis required for physiological Notch receptor–ligand signaling. Dmt1 loss lowers iron storage capacity (ferritin), increasing intracellular Fe2+, driving ROS and lipid peroxidation, and leading to lysosomal/mitochondrial dysfunction.
