Physiology and Pathophysiology of Itch.

open access: yesPhysiological Reviews, 2019
Itch is a topic to which everyone can relate. The physiologic roles of itch are increasingly understood and appreciated. The pathophysiologic consequences of itch impact quality of life as much as pain.

Phenotypic and genotypic characterization of single circulating tumor cells in the follow‐up of high‐grade serous ovarian cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Single circulating tumor cells (sCTCs) from high‐grade serous ovarian cancer patients were enriched, imaged, and genomically profiled using WGA and NGS at different time points during treatment. sCTCs revealed enrichment of alterations in Chromosomes 2, 7, and 12 as well as persistent or emerging oncogenic CNAs, supporting sCTC identity.

Cowhage-induced itch as an experimental model for pruritus. A comparative study with histamine-induced itch.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2011
BackgroundHistamine is the prototypical pruritogen used in experimental itch induction. However, in most chronic pruritic diseases, itch is not predominantly mediated by histamine.

Redox regulation meets metabolism: targeting PRDX2 to prevent hepatocellular carcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
PRDX2 acts as a central redox hub linking metabolic dysfunction‐associated steatohepatitis (MASH) to hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). In normal hepatocytes, PRDX2 maintains redox balance and metabolic homeostasis under oxidative stress. In contrast, during malignant transformation, PRDX2 promotes oncogenic signaling, stemness, and tumor initiation ...

Contagious itch can be induced in humans but not in rodents

open access: yesMolecular Brain, 2019
Itch contagion has been reported in human when people watch someone scratching in a video. The basic mechanism of contagious itch induced by scratching video is still being investigated.

An itching plaque [PDF]

open access: yesDermatology Practical & Conceptual, 2015
A 30-year-old woman presented to our hospital in Manacor, Mallorca, with a new lesion on the thorax that had appeared three to four months earlier, had gradually enlarged and was slightly itchy. The patient was otherwise healthy. Physical examination revealed a tender, brownish papule or plaque contacting the elastic band of the underwear under the ...

Periostin Activation of Integrin Receptors on Sensory Neurons Induces Allergic Itch

open access: yesCell Reports, 2020
SUMMARY Chronic allergic itch is a common symptom affecting millions of people and animals, but its pathogenesis is not fully explained. Herein, we show that periostin, abundantly expressed in the skin of patients with atopic dermatitis (AD), induces ...

Genetic attenuation of ALDH1A1 increases metastatic potential and aggressiveness in colorectal cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aldehyde dehydrogenase 1A1 (ALDH1A1) is a cancer stem cell marker in several malignancies. We established a novel epithelial cell line from rectal adenocarcinoma with unique overexpression of this enzyme. Genetic attenuation of ALDH1A1 led to increased invasive capacity and metastatic potential, the inhibition of proliferation activity, and ultimately ...

Targeted modulation of IGFL2‐AS1 reveals its translational potential in cervical adenocarcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Cervical adenocarcinoma patients face worse outcomes than squamous cell carcinoma counterparts despite similar treatment. The identification of IGFL2‐AS1's differential expression provides a molecular basis for distinguishing these histotypes, paving the way for personalized therapies and improved survival in vulnerable populations globally.

Exacerbating factors of itch in atopic dermatitis

open access: yesAllergology International, 2017
Atopic dermatitis (AD) displays different clinical symptoms, progress, and response to treatment during early infancy and after childhood. After the childhood period, itch appears first, followed by formation of well-circumscribed plaque or polymorphous ...
