tolQis required for cloacin DF13 susceptibility inEscherichia coliexpressing the aerobactin/cloacin DF13 receptor IutA [PDF]

open access: yesFEMS Microbiology Letters, 1992
We investigated the role of the tolQ gene in the import of cloacin DF13 across the outer membrane of Escherichia coli strains expressing the IutA receptor. The IutA outer-membrane protein is the receptor for the siderophore ferric aerobactin and also binds cloacin DF13, a bacteriocin produced by strains of Enterobacter aerogenes.

Escherichia coli virulence factors iutA, an iron acquisition factor, and ibeA, an invasion factor, are related to severity of bacteremic acute biliary tract infections [PDF]

open access: yesGut Pathogens, 2020
Abstract BackgroundAlthough Escherichia coli is the most frequently isolated organism in acute biliary tract infections with bacteremia, data regarding its virulence are limited.ResultsBacteremic acute biliary tract infection cases in a retrospective study were collected from 2013 to 2015 at a tertiary care hospital in Japan. Factors related to

Possible role of Escherichia coli in propagation and perpetuation of chronic inflammation in ulcerative colitis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
BACKGROUND: This study investigated a possible role of Escherichia coli in propagation and perpetuation of the chronic inflammation in ulcerative colitis (UC). The lesions of UC are located superficially on the rectal and/or colonic mucosa.

Evaluation of systemic and mucosal immune responses in mice administered with recombinant Salmonella Typhimurium expressing IutA protein [PDF]

open access: yesKorean Journal of Veterinary Research, 2013
Abstract : Avian pathogenic Escherichia coli (APEC) are known to cause extraintestinal disease in poultry, leadingto substantial losses in the industry. IutA, iron-regulated aerobactin receptor is firmly associated with APEC. To assessthe potential of IutA to induce protective immune responses, attenuated Salmonella Typhimurium strain expressingIutA ...

The adherent/invasive escherichia coli (AIEC) strain LF82 invades and persists in human prostate cell lineRWPE-1 activating a strong inflammatory response [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Adherent/invasive Escherichia coli (AIEC) strains have recently been receiving increased attention because they are more prevalent and persistent in the intestine of Crohn's disease (CD) patients than in healthy subjects.

Determination of atmospherically deposited microplastics in moss: Method development and performance evaluation

open access: yesGreen Analytical Chemistry, 2023
The investigation of atmospheric microplastic pollution is a rising topic within microplastic research. However, sampling strategies concerning atmospheric microplastics are not standardized yet and strongly depend on the scientific objectives ...

Molecular investigation of effects of probiotic on papG and iutA genes in different strains of E.coli isolated from urinary tract infection

open access: yesArchive of Urological Research, 2023
Escherichia coli-induced urinary tract infections (E.coli-UTIs) are considered one of the most prevalent infections in Iran. One of the important factors of pathogenicity, particularly in its binding to epithelial cells, is the presence of iutA and papG virulence genes in Escherichia coli (E.coli).

Aerobactin synthesis genes iucA and iucC contribute to the pathogenicity of avian pathogenic Escherichia coli O2 strain E058. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2013
Aerobactin genes are known to be present in virulent strains and absent from avirulent strains, but contributions of iucC and iucA, which are involved in aerobactin synthesis, to the pathogenicity of avian pathogenic Escherichia coli (APEC) have not been

High Rates of Antimicrobial Resistance and Emergence of High-Risk Clones in Community-Acquired Uropathogenic Escherichia coli. [PDF]

open access: yesMicrobiologyopen
A total of 98 E. coli isolates from community‐acquired UTIs were analyzed, revealing high resistance rates to trimethoprim‐sulfamethoxazole and fluoroquinolones. Phylogenetic group B2 was the most prevalent and associated with increased virulence, while ST1193 emerged as the dominant MDR clone.
