On the Scale of Japanese Sardine, Sardinia melanosticta (TEMMINCK and SCHLEGEL)
It is pointed out that there is a reason to doube AIKAWA and KONISI'S assumption on the exsistence of pairs of main and secondary year rings on the scale of Japanese sardine. Except fpr the first ring, which may be really of the secondary nature, each of the others seems to be an year ring.

Characteristics of the Fishing Ground of Japanese Sardine off Sanriku during Northward Migration.
Very little research has been done on the mechanism for forming fishing grounds, particularly on the route by which Japanese sardine Sardinops melanostictus migrate to the Sanriku coast during their northward migration. In this connection, data on the fishing ground were analyzed and its relationship with a warm streamer was investigated using data ...

Role of Warm Streamers in the Northward Migration of Japanese Sardine off Sanriku.
The authors have shown in their previous report that the fishing ground of the Japanese sardine Sardinops melanostictus during their northward migration off the Sanriku coast is formed by schools coming from offshore waters, where warm streamers (WS) possibly serve as migration routes.

The effect of temperature on the duration of spawning markers—migratory-nucleus and hydrated oocytes and postovulatory follicles—in the multiple-batch spawner Japanese flounder (Paralichthys olivaceus) [PDF]
The duration of spawning markers (e.g. signs of previous or imminent spawnings) is essential information for estimating spawning frequency of fish. In this study, the effect of temperature on the duration of spawning markers (i.e., oocytes at early ...

A comparative account of the small pelagic fisheries in the APFIC region [PDF]
The production of the small pelagics in the APFIC region was 1.2 mt/sq. km during 1995. Among the four areas in the region, the small pelagics have registered (i) the maximum annual fluctuations in the western Indian Ocean; (ii) the highest increase duri'

Moving direction of Japanese sardine school on the basis of aerial surveys.
The flight surveys were conducted five times during the day in the waters off the southeast coast of Hokkaido where a big catch of sardine Sardinops melanosticta has been taken. In the area sardine schools were easily sighted, but were only distinguished by dark color against lighter background of the sea.
