A fulminant case of JC virus encephalopathy supporting a novel syndrome associated with JC virus infection of cortical neurons [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Health and Social Sciences, 2016
The JC virus ( JCV) is well known for causing progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy (PML), a potentially fatal, demyelinating disease of the central nervous system (CNS).

VALIDAÇÃO DO MÉTODO PCR EM TEMPO REAL PARA DIAGNÓSTICO DE CITOMEGALOVÍRUS E DOS POLIOMAVÍRUS BK E JC EM AMOSTRAS DE PACIENTES TRANSPLANTADOS RENAIS

open access: yesHematology, Transfusion and Cell Therapy, 2023
Introdução e objetivo: Os poliomavírus e citomegalovírus são vírus ubíquos na população que permanecem latentes em vários tecidos de indivíduos portadores.

RNA interference targets arbovirus replication in Culicoides cells [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Arboviruses are transmitted to vertebrate hosts by biting arthropod vectors such as mosquitoes, ticks and midges. These viruses replicate in both arthropods and vertebrates and are thus exposed to different antiviral responses in these organisms.

A Microbial Lipid‐ATP Synthase Axis Fuels NK Cell Antitumor Activity

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study focuses on the mechanism by which gut microbiota‐derived outer membrane vesicles (OMVs) regulate NK cell antitumor activity. B. intestinalis is identified to decrease extra‐intestinal tumor growth via its OMVs enriched in sphingosine (SP).

Amino acid sequences mediating vascular cell adhesion molecule 1 binding to integrin alpha 4: homologous DSP sequence found for JC polyoma VP1 coat protein

open access: yesNeurology International, 2013
The JC polyoma viral coat protein VP1 was analyzed for amino acid sequences homologies to the IDSP sequence which mediates binding of VLA-4 (integrin alpha 4) to vascular cell adhesion molecule 1.

Progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy and immune reconstitution inflammatory syndrome in seven patients with sarcoidosis: a critical discussion of treatment and prognosis

open access: yesTherapeutic Advances in Neurological Disorders, 2021
Progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy (PML) is a subacute brain infection by the opportunistic John Cunningham (JC) virus. Herein, we describe seven patients with PML, lymphopenia, and sarcoidosis, in three of whom PML was the first manifestation of

FGF13 Deficiency Ameliorates Paclitaxel‐Induced Neuropathic Pain by Inhibiting VASH1‐Mediated Microtubule Detyrosination to Promote Mitophagy

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
FGF13 is upregulated in DRG neurons of PIPNP model mice. DRG neuron‐specific knockout of FGF13 ameliorates PIPNP symptoms. Mechanistically, FGF13 potentiates microtubule detyrosination by promoting VASH1 binding to microtubules. FGF13 knockout suppresses VASH1‐mediated microtubule detyrosination and promotes α‐tubulin tyrosination.

Glial cell-specific regulation of the JC virus early promoter by histone deacetylase inhibitors

open access: yes, 2018
The human polyomavirus JC virus is the etiologic agent of the fatal disease demyelinating progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy. Although multiple transcription factors have been shown to interact with the JC virus promoter and regulate ...

Endoplasmic Reticulum Geometry Dictates Neuronal Bursting via Calcium Store Refill Rates and Exposes Selective Neuronal Vulnerability

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The ER's continuous tubular network is maintained by ER‐shaping proteins whose mutation or dysregulation contributes to neurodegenerative diseases. Here, we show that ER morphology sets the speed of Ca2+ store replenishment between firing events. Disrupting ER continuity slows intra‐ER Ca2+ redistribution from extracellular refill (SOCE) sites, driving

Progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy in the clinical practice of a neurologist. Case report [PDF]

open access: yesConsilium Medicum
Progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy (PML) is an opportunistic infection with severe brain damage caused by the JC-virus, against the background of immunosuppressive conditions.
