Abstract ‘Jonagold’ apples, grown in south-east England, were picked on 14 and 27 October and stored at 1.5°C in 8% CO 2 + 13% O 2 or 2 + 2% O 2 . Samples picked on 14 October were also stored at 1.5°C in 2 + 1.25% O 2 . Ground colour and flesh firmness, measured instrumentally, were retained least effectively by 2% O 2 , and the incidence of ...

Bruise detection on ‘Jonagold’ apples using hyperspectral imaging
Postharvest Biology and Technology, 2005Abstract A hyperspectral imaging system has been built within the wavelength range of 400–1000 nm for detecting bruises on ‘Jonagold’ apples. A total of 160 apples, i.e., sound ( n = 65), impact bruise ( n = 80) and drop bruise ( n = 15) were analysed.

Stem and calyx recognition on ‘Jonagold’ apples by pattern recognition
Journal of Food Engineering, 2007Abstract In this paper, a novel method to recognize stem or calyx regions of ‘Jonagold’ apples by pattern recognition is proposed. The method starts with background removal and object segmentation by thresholding. Statistical, textural and shape features are extracted from each segmented object and these features are introduced to several supervised ...

The ripening of Jonagored Jonagold apple fruit (Malus x domestica Borkh.) during development was manipulated with preharvest applications of ReTain or a combination of ReTain plus Ethrel. The fruits, harvested preclimacteric at approximately the same stages of maturity, were stored in refrigerated air (RA) for 45 days or in controlled atmosphere (CA ...

Variation in maturity traits within individual apples of cultivar Jonagold
The Journal of Horticultural Science and Biotechnology, 1998SummaryVariation within individual apples of ‘Jonagold’ in firmness, soluble solids (sugar) content and starch conversion was strongly related to aspect. The south face of apples, relative to the north and east faces, had high firmness, low starch conversion and high soluble solids content.

Bruise detection on Jonagold apples by visible and near-infrared spectroscopy
Food Control, 2005The visible and near-infrared spectra of bruised and intact spots on Jonagold apples were acquired from 400 to 1700 nm with spectrophotometers. Multiplicative scatter correction (MSC) and Norris' first derivative were applied to pre-process the spectra. Afterwards, partial least squares (PLS) analysis was performed on the processed spectral data.

INFLUENCE OF FERTIGATION WITH NITROGEN ON GROWTH AND CROPPING OF 'JONAGOLD' APPLE TREES
Acta Horticulturae, 2004The trial was conducted in a 'Jonagold'/M9 orchard (2500 trees/ha) and the experiment was designed as a split-block comprising five treatments (fertigation with 45 kg N/ha, 60 kg N/ha, 120 kg N/ha, irrigation without fertilisers, and control - without irrigation and without fertilisers).

Control of enzymatic browning in dried apples Jonagold variety
2006Many food products undergo various desired and undesired changes as a consequence of enzymatic and nonenzymatic reactions. Both reactions often lead to browning and deterioration of the quality of foods. One of the objectives of fruits and vegetables processing industry is to prevent enzymatic browning on cut surface of fresh fruits and vegetables, as ...
