Measuring overall functional diversity by aggregating its multiple facets: Functional richness, biomass evenness, trait evenness and dispersion

open access: yesMethods in Ecology and Evolution
Human activities induce environmental changes, which can affect individuals' traits thereby leading to changes in functional diversity and finally in ecosystem functioning.

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

The partial K function

open access: yes
The K function and its related statistics have been an enduring tool in the analysis of spatial point processes, providing an easy to compute and interpret summary statistic for characterising the interactions between points of one type, or between two different types of points.

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

Alternating hemiplegia of childhood-related neural and behavioural phenotypes in Na+, K+-ATPase a3 missense mutant mice [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Missense mutations in ATP1A3 encoding Na+,K+-ATPase α3 have been identified as the primary cause of alternating hemiplegia of childhood (AHC), a motor disorder with onset typically before the age of 6 months. Affected children tend to be of short stature

The convergence of Fourier series and a k-functional

open access: yesJournal of Mathematical Analysis and Applications, 1991
For \(f\in B[-\pi,\pi]\) and I a subinterval of [-\(\pi\),\(\pi\) ] let \(\omega (f,I)=\sup_{t,u\in I}| f(t)-f(u)|.\) If [a,b]\(\subset [- \pi,\pi]\) and \(\delta >0\) let \(\Omega (f,\delta;[a,b])=\sup \delta \sum_{I\in {\mathcal I}}\omega (f,I),\) where the sup is taken over all families \({\mathcal I}\) of subintervals of [a,b] such that card ...
