Fourth order nematic elasticity and modulated nematic phases: a poor man's approach

open access: yes, 2018
We propose an extension of Frank-Oseen's elastic energy for bulk nematic liquid crystals which is based on the hypothesis that the fundamental deformations allowed in nematic liquid crystals are splay, twist and bend.

Understanding K11‐ polyubiquitin recognition at the 26S Proteasome

open access: yesThe FASEB Journal, 2013
Ubiquitination, the covalent attachment of ubiquitin to target proteins, is a reversible post‐translational modification that regulates many important cellular processes. Ubiquitin chains linked at Lys48 (K48) serve as a signal for proteasomal degradation; whereas K63‐linked chains have non‐proteolytic function.

Optoelectronic Control of Redox Dynamics in POM Memristors for Noise‐Resilient Speech and Hardware‐Level Motion Recognition

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Optoelectronic control of redox‐active polyoxometalate clusters in polymer matrices yields hybrid memristors with switchable volatile and non‐volatile modes, enabling reservoir‐type in‐sensor optical preprocessing and stable multilevel synapses for multimodal neuromorphic computing, including noise‐tolerant audiovisual keyword recognition and hardware ...

Components of Path Dependence of the Agricultural Property Market in Poland

open access: yesReal Estate Management and Valuation, 2017
Agricultural real property has economic and social significance. An inseparable aspect of it is a historically and culturally shaped structure of ownership.

Parity Breaking in Nematic Tactoids

open access: yes, 2004
We theoretically investigate under what conditions the director field in a spindle-shaped nematic droplet or tactoid obtains a twisted, parity-broken structure.

Selective Reflection of Chiral Ferroelectric Nematic Liquid Crystals Tuned by Electric Field Along the Helix Axis

open access: yesAdvanced Optical Materials, EarlyView.
It is demonstrated that in chiral ferroelectric nematic liquid crystals sandwiched between electrically conducting transparent plates, the reflection color can be reversibly tuned by electric fields applied along the helix axis. The proposed theoretical model, assuming field‐induced coiling of the helix axis, accounts for all observations.

OTUD6A promotes prostate tumorigenesis via deubiquitinating Brg1 and AR

open access: yesCommunications Biology, 2022
OTUD6A, a deubiquitinase, is amplified in prostate cancer and correlates with poor survivability, increasing the growth of prostate cancer cell lines and PDX models.

Remarks on E11 approach

open access: yes, 2005
We consider a few topics in $E_{11}$ approach to superstring/M-theory: even subgroups ($Z_2$ orbifolds) of $E_{n}$, n=11,10,9 and their connection to Kac-Moody algebras; $EE_{11}$ subgroup of $E_{11}$ and coincidence of one of its weights with the $l_1 ...

LMO7 Suppresses Tumor‐Associated Macrophage Phagocytosis of Tumor Cells Through Degradation of LRP1

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
LMO7 in tumor‐associated macrophages suppresses phagocytosis of tumor cells and limits cytotoxic T lymphocytes infiltration, fostering tumor progression. Mechanistically, LMO7 mediates the ubiquitination and degradation of the phagocytic receptor LRP1, impairing its ability to engulf tumor cells and driving macrophages toward an antitumor phenotype ...

$C_{n}^{(1)}$, $D_{n}^{(1)}$ and $A_{2n-1}^{(2)}$ reflection K-matrices

open access: yes, 2003
We investigate the possible regular solutions of the boundary Yang-Baxter equation for the vertex models associated with the $C_{n}^{(1)}$, $D_{n}^{(1)}$ and $A_{2n-1}^{(2)}$ affine Lie algebras.
