Detecting circulating tumor cells (CTCs) in blood before surgery may help predict outcomes in patients with head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC). Here, we show when combined with tumor size and lymph node involvement from routine imaging, CTC status identifies high‐risk patients with poorer survival—offering a simple, minimally invasive tool ...

LUNAR is a liver‐specific long noncoding RNA (lncRNA) that is highly expressed in normal liver but becomes epigenetically silenced in hepatocellular carcinoma through promoter hypermethylation. Loss of LUNAR is associated with NOTCH activation, epithelial–mesenchymal transition, and metastasis, whereas restoring LUNAR restrains metastatic progression ...

Interferon type 1 (IFN‐1) production and signaling is associated with the acquisition of therapy resistance, following chronic DNA damage, via Interferon‐related DNA damage resistance signature (IRDS) gene expression. An alternative, DNA damage‐independent role of sustained IFN‐1 mediated resistance was identified and characterized by the emergence of ...

This study identifies somatostatin receptor 4 (Sstr4) as a critical tumor suppressor against skin and head/neck cancers (HNSCC, cSCC, and BCC). The loss of Sstr4 removes a check on cell growth, causing hyperactivation of the MAPK‐ERK signaling pathway (↑).

Chemotherapy side effects significantly impact cancer survivors' quality of life. Using protein levels in blood samples from breast cancer patients before and after 12 weeks of taxane treatment, we detected treatment‐dependent changes in calcium signaling and aging pathways associated with cancer recurrence.

A Note on the Uniform Consistency of the Kaplan-Meier Estimator
Let \(\{X_ n\), \(n\geq 1\}\) be i.i.d. with \(P(X_ i\leq u)=F(u)\) and \(\{U_ n\), \(n\geq 1\}\) be i.i.d. with \(P(U_ i\leq u)=G(u)\). \(\hat F_ n(t)\) is the Kaplan-Meier estimator based on the censored data \((\tilde X_ i=X_ i\wedge U_ i\), \(\delta_ i=1_{(X_ i\leq U_ i)}\), \(1\leq i\leq n)\).

A novel signature integrating genome‐wide analysis with clinical factors predicts recurrence in stage II colorectal cancer and enables a new risk stratification to guide postoperative adjuvant chemotherapy. Clinical risk stratification for postoperative recurrence in patients with pathological stage II (pStage II) colorectal cancer (CRC) is essential ...

The Kaplan Meier Estimate in Survival Analysis [PDF]
Kaplan-Meier is a statistical method used in the analysis of time to event data. Time to event means the time from entry into a study until a particular event, for example onset of illness. This method is very useful in survival analysis as it is used by the researchers to determine and/or analyze the patients or participants who lost to follow up or ...

Loss of AMBRA1 activates MAPK and angiogenesis signaling pathways in melanoma cells
Loss of AMBRA1 in melanoma cells activates multiple oncogenic pathways associated with tumor progression. Transcriptomic and protein network analyses revealed that AMBRA1 depletion enhances MAPK/ERK signaling, angiogenesis, TGF‐β/EMT signaling, and Wnt/axon guidance pathways.

Thromboelastography Parameters as Predictors for Long-Term Survival in Critically Ill Patients
Thromboelastography (TEG) is used for monitoring abnormal blood coagulation in critically ill patients. However, the correlation between TEG parameters and long-term survival in these patients is unknown.
