Differential expression of cancer‐related genes supports prediction of poor response to first‐line treatments in T‐ALL pediatric patients with high minimal residual disease

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
In the present work, we have identified a transcriptional signature based on the differential expression of six genes (BCL2&MAST4, HSH2D&LAT2, METRN&PITPNM2) that would facilitate the early detection of T‐cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (T‐ALL) patients prone to a poor treatment response and could be implemented at diagnosis, along with other risk ...

Determination of the most appropriate method for extrapolating overall survival data from a placebo-controlled clinical trial of lenvatinib for progressive, radioiodine-refractory differentiated thyroid cancer [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Background: Cost-effectiveness models for the treatment of long-term conditions often require information on survival beyond the period of available data.

CD47 promotes mitogen‐activated protein kinase and epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition molecular programs to drive prometastatic phenotypes in non‐small cell lung cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Beyond its role in immune evasion, this study identified that CD47 drives tumor‐intrinsic signaling in non‐small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Transcriptomic profiling and functional studies revealed that CD47 regulates cell adhesion, migration, and metastasis through an ERK–EMT signaling axis.

Application of a simple nonparametric conditional quantile function estimator in unemployment duration analysis [PDF]

open access: yes
We consider an extension of conventional univariate Kaplan-Meier type estimators for the hazard rate and the survivor function to multivariate censored data with a censored random regressor.

Timing and Determinants of Tuberculosis Treatment Interruption in Nairobi County, Kenya [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Tuberculosis (TB) treatment is a key pillar in the management and control of TB. Service delivery within the treatment facilities plays an important role in ensuring treatment adherence by TB patients.

NKCC1: A key regulator of glioblastoma progression

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Glioblastoma (GBM) progression is driven by disrupted chloride cotransporter homeostasis. NKCC1 is highly expressed in stem‐like, astrocytic, and progenitor cells, correlating with earlier recurrence, while overall survival remains unaffected. NKCC1 serves as a prognostic marker and potential therapeutic target, linking chloride transporter imbalance ...

Is There a Two-Way Risk between Decreased Testosterone Levels and the Progression and Prognosis of Chronic Kidney Disease? A Cohort Study Based on the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey Database

open access: yesThe World Journal of Men's Health
Purpose: The causal relationship between the incidence and prognosis of chronic kidney disease (CKD) and serum testosterone levels in patients is not yet fully understood.

Miners’ return to work following injuries in coal mines

open access: yesMedycyna Pracy, 2016
Background: The occupational injuries in mines are common and result in severe socio-economical consequences. Earlier studies have revealed the role of multiple factors such as demographic factors, behavioral factors, health-related factors, working ...

Prognostic Significance of Lactate Dehydrogenase in Patients Undergoing Surgical Resection for Laryngeal Squamous Cell Carcinoma

open access: yesCancer Control, 2020
The aim is to estimate the prognostic value of lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) in patients undergoing surgical resection for laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma (LSCC). A total of 640 resected LSCC patients were included.
