The $$\kappa $$ κ -Generalized Distribution
2015This chapter introduces the \(\kappa \)-generalized distribution and its interrelations with other statistical distributions. It also provides the basic statistical properties and inferential aspects of this parametric model as well as aspects that are of special interest in the income distribution field, including the Lorenz curve and inequality ...

Distributivity and base trees for $P(\kappa)/ {\lt} \kappa$
Canadian Mathematical BulletinAbstractFor $\kappa $ a regular uncountable cardinal, we show that distributivity and base trees for $P(\kappa )/{<}\kappa $ of intermediate height in the cardinal interval $[\omega , \kappa )$ exist in certain models. We also show that base trees of height $\kappa $ can exist as well as base trees of various heights $\geq \kappa ...

Quasi-thermal noise in space plasma: “kappa” distributions
Physics of Plasmas, 2009The transport of energy in collisionless plasmas, especially in space plasmas, is far from being understood. Measuring the temperature of the electrons and their nonthermal properties can give important clues to understand the transport properties. Quasi-thermal noise (QTN) spectroscopy is a reliable tool for measuring accurately the electron density ...

The Nature of Single Fiber Kappa Distributions
TAPPI Journal, 2009We examined the uniformity of a variety of kraft pulps with the University of Washington’s single fiber kappa analyzer (FKA). Some consistent patterns and trends with regard to pulp uniformity have emerged. This paper provides a synthesis of the significant observations we made in examining the kappa uniformity of kraft pulps.

More on the four-parameter kappa distribution
Journal of Statistical Computation and Simulation, 2001The generalized extreme-value has been the distribution of choice for modeling available maxima (or minima) data since theory has shown it to be the limiting form of the distribution of extremes. However, fits to finite samples are not always adequate.

Debye length in a kappa-distribution plasma
Journal of Plasma Physics, 1996The Debye length, the characteristic shielding distance in a plasma, is, when the electrons and ions have Maxwellian velocity distributions, determined by the ratio of the temperatures of these components, to the electron (or ion) number density. Plasmas encountered in space, however, commonly exhibit non-Maxwellian velocity distributions, where the ...

KAPPA DISTRIBUTIONS AND FEATURES OF MAGNETOSPHERIC DYNAMICS
2018Electron and ion distribution functions in the magnetosphere of the Earth in many cases can be described by kappa distributions. Such distributions have a Maxwellian core and a power law spectrum at high energies. Kappa distributions are formed due to relaxation of nonequilibrium distribution functions to the Maxwellian distributions in the conditions ...

Theoretical aspects of Hamiltonian kappa distributions
Physica Scripta, 2019Abstract The paper examines the formalism of phase-space kappa distribution of particle Hamiltonian in space and other plasmas that reside in stationary states out of the classical thermal equilibrium. Plasmas in the classical thermal equilibrium have their particle velocities described by Maxwell–Boltzmann distributions, in contrast ...
