Dual Maxwellian-Kappa modelling of the solar wind electrons: new clues on the temperature of Kappa populations

open access: yes, 2017
Context. Recent studies on Kappa distribution functions invoked in space plasma applications have emphasized two alternative approaches which may assume the temperature parameter either dependent or independent of the power-index $\kappa$.

The newfound relationship between extrachromosomal DNAs and excised signal circles

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Extrachromosomal DNAs (ecDNAs) contribute to the progression of many human cancers. In addition, circular DNA by‐products of V(D)J recombination, excised signal circles (ESCs), have roles in cancer progression but have largely been overlooked. In this Review, we explore the roles of ecDNAs and ESCs in cancer development, and highlight why these ...

Genetic attenuation of ALDH1A1 increases metastatic potential and aggressiveness in colorectal cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aldehyde dehydrogenase 1A1 (ALDH1A1) is a cancer stem cell marker in several malignancies. We established a novel epithelial cell line from rectal adenocarcinoma with unique overexpression of this enzyme. Genetic attenuation of ALDH1A1 led to increased invasive capacity and metastatic potential, the inhibition of proliferation activity, and ultimately ...

MANAGEMENT CLASS DELIMITATION IN A SOYBEAN CROP USING ORBITAL IMAGES [PDF]

open access: yesEngenharia Agrícola, 2019
The delimitation of management classes is critical for successful precision agriculture. This process involves choosing the variables to use and analyzing the spatial variability of the variables.

Histological scoring systems in ulcerative colitis patients: a routine practice perspective [PDF]

open access: yesArchives of the Balkan Medical Union, 2020
Introduction. Histological healing has become a therapeutic goal in patients with ulcerative colitis. However, a consensus on its precise definition has not been reached yet.

The Callias Index Formula Revisited

open access: yes, 2016
We revisit the Callias index formula for Dirac-type operators $L$ in odd space dimension $n$, and prove that \begin{align} \text{ind} \, (L) =\bigg(\frac{i}{8\pi}\bigg)^{\frac{n-1}{2}}\frac{1}{2(\frac{n-1}{2})!} \lim_{\Lambda \to\infty}\frac{1 ...

Dimethyl fumarate combined with cisplatin at subcytotoxic doses sensitizes cervical cancer toward ferroptosis and apoptosis through GSH restriction and p53 (re)activation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Dimethyl fumarate (DMF) reduces growth of HPV‐positive cervical cancer spheroids and induces ferroptosis in cervical cancer cells via blocking SLC7A11/Glutathione (GSH) axis. Combination of subcytotoxic doses of DMF and cisplatin (CDDP) further suppresses spheroid growth and drives cell death in 2D culture models.

Acoustic Kappa-Density Fluctuation Waves in Suprathermal Kappa Function Fluids

open access: yes, 2007
We describe a new wave mode similar to the acoustic wave in which both density and velocity fluctuate. Unlike the acoustic wave in which the underlying distribution is Maxwellian, this new wave mode occurs when the underlying distribution is a ...

Deciphering transcriptional plasticity in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma reveals alterations in sensory neuron innervation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Pancreatic sensory neurons innervating healthy and PDAC tissue were retrogradely labeled and profiled by single‐cell RNA sequencing. Tumor‐associated innervation showed a dominant neurofilament‐positive subtype, altered mitochondrial gene signatures, and reduced non‐peptidergic neurons.

Application of different patella height indices in patients undergoing total knee arthroplasty

open access: yesJournal of Orthopaedic Surgery and Research, 2017
Background One complication of total knee arthroplasty (TKA) is patella baja (PB). Patellar tendon shortening and joint line elevation are two main causes of PB.
