Impairment of ribosome maturation or function confers salt resistance on Escherichia coli cells. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2013
We found that loss of integrity of the ribosome by removal of a putative ribosome maturation factor or a ribosomal protein conferred salt tolerance on Escherichia coli cells.

Plasmid-Determined Epistatic Susceptibility to Kasugamycin [PDF]

open access: yesAntimicrobial Agents and Chemotherapy, 1975
The effect of two representative plasmids, R100 and F8-gal, on the susceptibility of Escherichia coli to kasugamycin was studied. R + and F + cells were found to be more susceptible to this antibiotic than R − and F ...

Comparative genomic and metabolomic study of three Streptomyces sp. differing in biological activity

open access: yesMicrobiologyOpen, Volume 12, Issue 6, December 2023., 2023
This work demonstrates that the analysis of the metabolomes and the genomes of phylogenetically closely related strains which show different phenotypes can lead in a straightforward way to elucidate the compounds responsible for the observed phenotypes.

Tackling Soil ARG‐Carrying Pathogens with Global‐Scale Metagenomics

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 10, Issue 26, September 15, 2023., 2023
The ultimate risk of antibiotic abuse is the spread of antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs) into pathogens. This work reveals that soilborne AP diversity is driven by human activities, climatic variables, and physicochemical properties at the global scale. Specifically, agricultural land has the highest AP richness.

Strategies for capillary electrophoresis: Method development and validation for pharmaceutical and biological applications—Updated and completely revised edition

open access: yesELECTROPHORESIS, Volume 44, Issue 17-18, Page 1279-1341, September 2023., 2023
Abstract This review is in support of the development of selective, precise, fast, and validated capillary electrophoresis (CE) methods. It follows up a similar article from 1998, Wätzig H, Degenhardt M, Kunkel A. “Strategies for capillary electrophoresis: method development and validation for pharmaceutical and biological applications,” pointing out ...

Self‐demise of soft rot bacteria by activation of microbial predators by pectin‐based carriers

open access: yesMicrobial Biotechnology, Volume 16, Issue 7, Page 1561-1576, July 2023., 2023
In this research, a low methoxyl pectin‐based immobilization system for Bdellovibrio bacteriovorus is established. It takes advantage that pectin residues induce plant cell wall degrading enzymes secretion by the pathogens, bringing upon the release of the encapsulated predators.

Chemical products for corn bacterial streak control

open access: yesPesquisa Agropecuária Tropical, 2021
Xanthomonas vasicola pv. vasculorum is one of the main bacterial diseases in corn, which causes damage to crops due to its fast dissemination and difficult control.

Framework for defining pesticide maximum residue levels in feed: applications to cattle and sheep

open access: yesPest Management Science, Volume 79, Issue 2, Page 748-759, February 2023., 2023
A framework defines consistent maximum residue levels (MRLs) of pesticides in animal feed and evaluates the impact of those MRLs on/from upstream and downstream sectors of the livestock‐product supply chain. Abstract BACKGROUND Pesticide residues in animal feed can endanger animal health and compromise the safety of livestock products for human ...

Insights into the Stress Response Triggered by Kasugamycin in Escherichia coli

open access: yesAntibiotics, 2016
The bacteriostatic aminoglycoside antibiotic kasugamycin inhibits protein synthesis at an initial step without affecting translation elongation. It binds to the mRNA track of the ribosome and prevents formation of the translation initiation complex on ...

Molecular epidemiology of the citrus bacterial pathogen Xanthomonas citri pv. citri from the Arabian Peninsula reveals a complex structure of specialist and generalist strains

open access: yesEvolutionary Applications, Volume 15, Issue 9, Page 1423-1435, September 2022., 2022
Abstract Molecular epidemiology studies are essential to refine our understanding of migrations of phytopathogenic bacteria, the major determining factor in their emergence, and to understand the factors that shape their population structure. Microsatellite and minisatellite typing are useful techniques for deciphering the population structure of ...
