Antibiotic resistance evolved via inactivation of a ribosomal RNA methylating enzyme. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Modifications of the bacterial ribosome regulate the function of the ribosome and modulate its susceptibility to antibiotics. By modifying a highly conserved adenosine A2503 in 23S rRNA, methylating enzyme Cfr confers resistance to a range of ribosome ...

Metagenomic analysis reveals houseflies as indicators for monitoring environmental antibiotic resistance genes

open access: yesEnvironmental Microbiology Reports, Volume 16, Issue 6, December 2024.
Housefly body‐surface samples were collected from five distinct sites associated with human activities and subjected to metagenomic sequencing analysis. The results revealed that the composition of species and ARGs on the housefly body surface reflected the characteristics of their respective environments.

Increased antibiotic resistance gene abundance linked to intensive bacterial competition in the phyllosphere across an elevational gradient

open access: yesEnvironmental Microbiology Reports, Volume 16, Issue 6, December 2024.
Minimal research has been conducted on the phyllosphere resistome in relatively pristine environments. This study reports an increase in the abundance of phyllosphere resistomes along an elevational gradient in a national natural reserve, with implications for the spread of antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs). Abstract Antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs)
