First report of V1016G and S989P knockdown resistant (kdr) mutations in pyrethroid-resistant Sri Lankan Aedes aegypti mosquitoes

open access: yesParasites & Vectors, 2018
Background Dengue is a serious arboviral disease in Sri Lanka with a large number of dengue fever (DF) cases every year. Control of the primary vector Aedes aegypti depends upon larval habitat source reduction and insecticide application.

Expanded Hepatic Progenitor Cells Featured with Aggregation of α‐Synuclein Contribute to Pathologic Bile Duct Regeneration in Biliary Atresia

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Expanded NCAM1+EpCAM+ hepatic progenitor cells in biliary atresia are characterized by aggregation of α‐synuclein. This pathological protein potentiates cellular susceptibility to GSH‐dependent redox dyshomeostasis, induces unstable biliary cell fate specification, and subsequently drives aberrant biliary regeneration.

Bionomics and insecticide resistance of Aedes albopictus in Shandong, a high latitude and high-risk dengue transmission area in China

open access: yesParasites & Vectors, 2020
Background Dengue fever outbreaks tend to spread northward in China, and Jining is the northernmost region where local dengue fever cases have been detected.

Physiological evidence that three known mutations in the para-sodium channel gene confer cypermethrin knockdown resistance in Rhipicephalus microplus

open access: yesParasites & Vectors, 2020
Background Acaricide resistance is a central problem for the control of the cattle tick Rhipicephalus microplus. The physiological effects and phenotypes of the mutations that cause acaricide resistance are not always well understood or characterized ...

Quality Thresholds for Angiogenesis Under Acoustic Manipulation in Engineered Vascular Tissues

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Defined biological and physical quality thresholds achieved through acoustic manipulation regulate cellular alignment and spatial organization, promoting self‐assembling vasculature, extracellular matrix deposition, and angiogenic responses, thereby establishing critical acoustic patterning requirements for engineered vascular tissue development in ...

Global distribution and impact of knockdown resistance mutations in Aedes aegypti on pyrethroid resistance

open access: yesParasites & Vectors
The ongoing fight against mosquito-borne diseases such as dengue, Zika, and chikungunya is increasingly challenged by Aedes aegypti resistance to pyrethroid insecticides.

Status of insecticide resistance in Anopheles gambiae (s.l.) of The Gambia

open access: yesParasites & Vectors, 2019
Background Vector control activities, namely long-lasting insecticidal nets (LLIN) and indoor residual spraying (IRS), have contributed significantly to the decreasing malaria burden observed in The Gambia since 2008. Nevertheless, insecticide resistance

Molecular Detection of Insecticide Resistance Mutations in Anopheles gambiae from Sierra Leone Using Multiplex SNaPshot and Sequencing

open access: yesFrontiers in Cellular and Infection Microbiology, 2021
Vector control interventions including long-lasting insecticidal nets and indoor residual spraying are important for malaria control and elimination. And effectiveness of these interventions depends entirely on the high level of susceptibility of malaria

Slc44a2 Deficiency Unveils an IFN‐I–Dependent Feedback Control of pDC Egress

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Working model of SLC44A2‐mediated maintenance of pDC homeostasis. This model illustrates two central mechanisms by which SLC44A2 regulates pDC homeostasis: (1) SLC44A2 limits IFN‐I production by exporting amino acids (T, N, Q), thereby preventing spontaneous pDC activation.

Efficacy of mosquito nets treated with a pyrethroid-organophosphorous mixture againstKdr- andKdr+ malaria vectors (Anopheles gambiae) [PDF]

open access: yesParasite, 2003
In order to prevent the resistance of Anopheles gambiae s.l. to pyrethroids from spreading too quickly and to lengthen the effectiveness of insecticide impregnated mosquito nets, it has recently been suggested to use mixtures of insecticides that have different modes of action.
