Optical Kerr Type Nonlinearity

open access: yesActa Physica Polonica A, 2001
The origin of the Kerr type nonlinearity of the medium as a result of the interaction between photons via the Dirac delta-potential is presented in the formalism adopted from the photon wave function approach. In the view of the result the optical soliton may be treated as a bound state (cluster) of many photons.

Giant nonlinear Kerr effects [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Magnetism and Magnetic Materials, 1996
Abstract The nonlinear second harmonic reflectivity of magnetic surfaces is found to display longitudinal nonlinear Kerr rotations that are three orders of magnitude larger than their linear equivalent. In the transversal geometry, similar enhancements are observed for the intensity changes.

Critical Schrödinger Cat Qubit

open access: yesPRX Quantum, 2023
Encoding quantum information onto bosonic systems is a promising route to quantum error correction. In a cat code, this encoding relies on the confinement of the dynamics of the system onto the two-dimensional manifold spanned by Schrödinger cats of ...

Observation of Kerr nonlinearity in micro-cavities at room temperature [PDF]

open access: yesThe 17th Annual Meeting of the IEEELasers and Electro-Optics Society, 2004. LEOS 2004., 2004
We have devised and experimentally verified a method for observation of the optical Kerr effect in microcavities at room temperature. The technique discriminates against the much larger and typically dominant thermal component of nonlinearity by using its relatively slow frequency response.

Integrated Field‐Free SOT Domain‐Wall Synapses and MTJ Stochastic Neurons for Hardware Boltzmann Machines

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Field‐free spin‐orbit torque domain‐wall synapses integrated with stochastic MTJ neurons enable compact hardware Boltzmann machines. Leveraging intrinsic stochasticity and multi‐level conductance, the system achieves efficient probabilistic learning with high accuracy, demonstrating a scalable spintronic platform for energy‐efficient edge AI.

Photonic Time Crystals and Time‐Varying Electromagnetic Metamatter: A New Direction for Ultrafast Tunable Photonic and Microwave Materials and Devices

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Photonic time crystals (PTCs) are systems in which electromagnetic parameters are modulated periodically in time, producing momentum bandgaps via temporal scattering rather than spatial Bragg processes. This review examines the theoretical frameworks, modeling, and computational tools for time‐varying media, and summarizes experimental demonstrations ...

Field‐Free Spin‐Splitting‐Torque Driven Stochastic Neuron Mimicking the Neuromorphic Imagination for High‐Performance Recognition

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The human brain's imagination, which enables autonomous driving hazard avoidance by completing missing visual information, relies on Gaussian‐stochastic neuron. We report the altermagnetic RuO2 spintronic neurons integrating field‐free switching and intrinsic Gaussian stochasticity, building an all‐spin ANN for high‐quality image repairing and high ...

Efficient Spectral Compression of Wavelength-Shifting Soliton and Its Application in Integratable All-Optical Quantization

open access: yesIEEE Photonics Journal, 2019
In this paper, we numerically demonstrate efficient spectral compression (SPC) of wavelength-shifting soliton in a chalcogenide strip waveguide. It is found that the profiles of group-velocity dispersion (GVD) and Kerr nonlinearity play key roles in ...

Photonic‐Enabled Energy‐Efficient Transparent Neuromorphic Computing Devices: A Review

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Transparent photonic neuromorphic computing devices merge optics and brain‐inspired computing to overcome von Neumann bottlenecks with ultrafast, low‐energy processing. By exploiting transparent oxides, 2D materials, phase‐change materials, and hybrid heterostructures, these platforms enable photonic synapses, memory, and logic for see‐through edge ...

Joint estimation of noise and nonlinearity in Kerr systems

open access: yesAPL Quantum
We address the characterization of lossy and dephasing channels in the presence of self-Kerr interaction using coherent probes. In particular, we investigate the ultimate bounds to precision in the joint estimation of loss and nonlinearity and of ...
