Periodic squeezing in a polariton Josephson junction [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
The use of a Kerr nonlinearity to generate squeezed light is a well-known way to surpass the quantum noise limit along a given field quadrature. Nevertheless, in the most common regime of weak nonlinearity, a single Kerr resonator is unable to provide ...

Measuring the Kerr nonlinearity via seeded Kerr instability amplification: conceptual analysis

open access: yesOptics Express, 2018
Whereas the Kerr nonlinearity is well understood in the perturbative limit of nonlinear optics, there is considerable discussion about its functional form and magnitude at extreme intensities, at which point matter starts to ionize. Here, we introduce a concept to answer this question and theoretically analyze its feasibility.

Spatial Solitons in Media with Delayed-Response Optical Nonlinearities

open access: yes, 1994
Near-soliton scanning light-beam propagation in media with both delayed-response Kerr-type and thermal nonlinearities is analyzed. The delayed-response part of the Kerr nonlinearity is shown to be competitive as compared to the thermal nonlinearity, and ...

Enhanced optical Kerr nonlinearity of graphene/Si hybrid waveguide

open access: yes, 2018
In this work, we experimentally study the optical kerr nonlinearities of graphene/Si hybrid waveguides with enhanced self-phase modulation. In the case of CMOS compatible materials for nonlinear optical signal processing, Si and silicon nitride ...

Nonlinearity Induced Critical Coupling [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
We study a critically coupled system (Opt. Lett., \textbf{32}, 1483 (2007)) with a Kerr-nonlinear spacer layer. Nonlinearity is shown to inhibit null-scattering in a critically coupled system at low powers.

Stabilization of a (3+1)D soliton in a Kerr medium by a rapidly oscillating dispersion coefficient

open access: yes, 2004
Using the numerical solution of the nonlinear Schroedinger equation and a variational method it is shown that (3+1)-dimensional spatiotemporal optical solitons can be stabilized by a rapidly oscillating dispersion coefficient in a Kerr medium with cubic ...

2D Magnetic and Topological Quantum Materials and Devices for Ultralow Power Spintronics

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
2D magnets and topological quantum materials enable ultralow‐power spintronics by combining robust magnetic order with symmetry‐protected, Berry‐curvature‐driven transport. Fundamentals of 2D anisotropy and spin‐orbit‐coupling induced band inversion are linked to scalable growth and vdW stacking.

Generation of quantum states with nonlinear squeezing by Kerr nonlinearity

open access: yesOptics Express, 2021
In quantum optics, squeezing corresponds to the process in which fluctuations of a quadrature operator are reduced below the shot noise limit. In turn, nonlinear squeezing can be defined as reduction of fluctuations related to nonlinear combination of quadrature operators.
