Natriuretic Peptides in the Cardiovascular System. Multifaceted Roles in Physiology, Pathology and Therapeutics [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
The natriuretic peptides (NPs) family includes a class of hormones and their receptors needed for the physiological control of cardiovascular functions. The discovery of NPs provided a fundamental contribution into our understanding of the physiological ...

Insulin Resistance: An Update on Biochemical and Pathophysiological Mechanisms and Impact on Various Diseases

open access: yesiNew Medicine, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Insulin resistance is the biological phenomenon in which the human body's normal response to the metabolic hormone insulin is compromised. Insulin is a regulator of most of the essential metabolic steps in the body that control energy homoeostasis, so dysregulation leads to multiple diverse human diseases including, most prominently, Type 2 ...

The State of Black Immigrants Part I: A Statistical Portrait of Black Immigrants in the United States [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
The last four decades have represented a period of significant demographic change in the United States. Now more than ever, Black immigrants compose a significant percentage of both immigrant and Black populations in the U.S. overall.

Vascular Calcification: Mechanisms, Models, and Therapies

open access: yesiNew Medicine, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Vascular calcification represents an active multifactorial process that mirrors several key features of skeletal bone mineralization. Clinically, it is characterized by diminished arterial compliance and increased arterial wall stiffness, both of which serve as independent predictors of significant adverse cardiovascular events.

Optimization and Abstraction: A Synergistic Approach for Analyzing Neural Network Robustness

open access: yes, 2019
In recent years, the notion of local robustness (or robustness for short) has emerged as a desirable property of deep neural networks. Intuitively, robustness means that small perturbations to an input do not cause the network to perform ...

Demazure descent and representations of reductive groups [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
We introduce the notion of Demazure descent data on a triangulated category C and define the descent category for such data. We illustrate the definition by our basic example. Let G be a reductive algebraic group with a Borel subgroup B.

A dendrimer enhanced CRISPR/Cas12a performance for the evaluation of acidogenic capacity in cariogenic bacteria

open access: yesInterdisciplinary Medicine, EarlyView.
A CRISPR/Cas12a‐powered dendritic DNA nanostructure is assembled to create confined enzymatic microdomains, enabling ultrasensitive detection. Integrated into a paper‐based origami biosensor, it allows equipment‐free on‐site quantification of acidogenic pathogens for the early diagnosis of dental caries.

Evaluation of adropin indices and PCSK9 in non-diabetic men with severe obstructive sleep apnea

open access: yesTürk Biyokimya Dergisi
We aimed to investigate the relationship among proprotein convertase subtilisin/kexin type 9 (PCSK9), adropin levels, inflammation, and sleep variables in non-diabetic males with severe obstructive sleep apnea (OSA).

Perkembangan Implikasi Biologi dan Klinis Proprotein Convertase Subtilisin-Kexin 9

open access: yesMajalah Kardiologi Indonesia, 2017

Secreted PCSK9 downregulates low density lipoprotein receptor through receptor-mediated endocytosis

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 2007
Proprotein convertase subtilisin/kexin type 9 (PCSK9) is a protease that regulates low density lipoprotein receptor (LDLR) protein levels. The mechanisms of this action, however, remain to be defined.
