Kinetic limitations of cooperativity based drug delivery systems

open access: yes, 2008
We study theoretically a novel drug delivery system that utilizes the overexpression of certain proteins in cancerous cells for cell specific chemotherapy. The system consists of dendrimers conjugated with "keys" (ex: folic acid) which "key-lock" bind to

Selecting a Key Skills Delivery Mode: Thinking about efficiency and effectiveness [PDF]

open access: yesOxford Review of Education, 2001
This research-based paper attempts to describe a continuum of delivery choices available to school and college managers by which Key Skills can be introduced as part of Curriculum 2000. It describes the pressure to integrate, the illusion of contextualisation and the consequent pre-eminence of staff competence as a determining influence on the ...

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...

RaMBat: Accurate identification of medulloblastoma subtypes from diverse data sources with severe batch effects

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
To integrate multiple transcriptomics data with severe batch effects for identifying MB subtypes, we developed a novel and accurate computational method named RaMBat, which leveraged subtype‐specific gene expression ranking information instead of absolute gene expression levels to address batch effects of diverse data sources.

In vivo fluorescence imaging of nanocarriers in near-infrared window II based on aggregation-caused quenching

open access: yesJournal of Nanobiotechnology
Accurate fluorescence imaging of nanocarriers in vivo remains a challenge owing to interference derived mainly from biological tissues and free probes. To address both issues, the current study explored fluorophores in the near-infrared (NIR)-II window ...

Delay Comparison of Delivery and Coding Policies in Data Clusters

open access: yes, 2017
A key function of cloud infrastructure is to store and deliver diverse files, e.g., scientific datasets, social network information, videos, etc. In such systems, for the purpose of fast and reliable delivery, files are divided into chunks, replicated or

Colorectal cancer‐derived FGF19 is a metabolically active serum biomarker that exerts enteroendocrine effects on mouse liver

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Meta‐transcriptome analysis identified FGF19 as a peptide enteroendocrine hormone associated with colorectal cancer prognosis. In vivo xenograft models showed release of FGF19 into the blood at levels that correlated with tumor volumes. Tumoral‐FGF19 altered murine liver metabolism through FGFR4, thereby reducing bile acid synthesis and increasing ...

Preparation of a benziodazole-type iodine(III) compound and its application as a nitrating reagent for synthesis of furazans via a copper-catalyzed cascade process

open access: yesCommunications Chemistry
The existing hypervalent I(III) reagents bearing ONO2 group are limited in types and their applications primarily focused on the nitrooxylation reactions featuring a fully-exo fashion. Herein, a benziodazole-type O2NO-I(III) compound was prepared and its

High intensity forced ultrasound-driven ferroptosis as a strategy for anti-tumor immune priming

open access: yesActa Pharmaceutica Sinica B
Cold tumors have a poor response to tumor immunotherapy due to low immune cell infiltration and the ability to evade immune attacks. Converting cold tumors into hot tumors can enhance the clinical effectiveness of anti-tumor immunotherapy. High-intensity
