Glomerulocystic kidney disease [PDF]

open access: yesPediatric Nephrology, 2010
Glomerulocystic disease is a rare renal cystic disease with a long descriptive history. Findings from recent studies have significantly advanced the pathophysiological understanding of the disease processes leading to this peculiar phenotype. Many genetic syndromes associated with glomerulocystic disease have had their respective proteins localized to ...

TRPM8 levels determine tumor vulnerability to channel agonists

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
TRPM8 is a Ca2+ permissive channel. Regardless of the amount of its transcript, high levels of TRPM8 protein mark different tumors, including prostate, breast, colorectal, and lung carcinomas. Targeting TRPM8 with channel agonists stimulates inward calcium currents followed by emptying of cytosolic Ca2+ stores in cancer cells.

Machine learning model for cardiovascular disease prediction in patients with chronic kidney disease

open access: yesFrontiers in Endocrinology
IntroductionCardiovascular disease (CVD) is the leading cause of death in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD). This study aimed to develop CVD risk prediction models using machine learning to support clinical decision making and improve patient ...

A flow cytometry approach reveals heterogeneity in conventional subsets of murine renal mononuclear phagocytes

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2021
Mononuclear phagocytes (MNPs) participate in inflammation and repair after kidney injury, reflecting their complex nature. Dissection into refined functional subunits has been challenging and would benefit understanding of renal pathologies.

Leukotrienes and kidney diseases [PDF]

open access: yesCurrent Opinion in Nephrology and Hypertension, 2018
This review will critically highlight the role of leukotrienes as mediators of renal diseases and drug nephrotoxicity. It will also discuss the recently identified mechanism of cysteinyl leukotrienes induction and action, and will propose clinical implementation of these findings.Since last reviewed in 1994, leukotrienes were shown to mediate drug ...

Loss of primary cilia promotes EphA2‐mediated endothelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition in the ovarian tumor microenvironment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Loss of primary cilia in endothelial cells promotes EndMT and vascular abnormalities in the ovarian tumor microenvironment through EphA2 activation. Using human samples, in vitro models, and endothelial‐specific Kif3a‐knockout mice, we show that primary cilia loss drives the acquisition of cancer‐associated fibroblast‐like phenotypes, thereby ...

Therapeutic applications of a novel humanized monoclonal antibody targeting chemokine receptor CCR9 in pancreatic cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
C–C chemokine receptor type 9 (CCR9) is an immune checkpoint in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC). Novel anti‐CCR9 antibody SRB2 was evaluated in combination with cytotoxic chemotherapy in PDAC cells, patient‐derived organoids, patient‐derived xenografts, and humanized mouse models.

MSCs-derived HGF alleviates senescence by inhibiting unopposed mitochondrial fusion-based elongation in post-acute kidney injury

open access: yesStem Cell Research & Therapy
Background The underlying mechanism of human umbilical-derived mesenchymal stem cells (hUC-MSCs) therapy for renal senescence in post-acute kidney injury (post-AKI) remains unclear.
