[Morphometric analysis of the effects of vasopressin in the rat kidney collecting tubules].
Rossiiskii fiziologicheskii zhurnal imeni I.M. Sechenova, 1999A significant increase in the water permeability was found in the rat outer medullary collecting duct (OMCD) cells in presence of 10-7M of vasopressin. The latter caused a decrease in the OMCD cell volume in isoosmotic medium in adult rats. In pups, the water permeability of the OMCD cells was very high.

Light and electron microscopic techniques were employed to characterise the various cell types found in the distal tubules, collecting tubules and collecting ducts in the kidneys of wild starlings (Sturnus vulgaris). There was a gradual change in cell characteristics along the length of the distal tubule. A short transition zone was identified, between

AbstractIn female Podarcis taurica the kidney collecting tubule always consists entirely of mucous‐secreting cells. In males it has a seasonally variable sexual segment and a non variable mucous‐secreting segment. In April the sexual segment is composed of columnar cells with cytoplasm rich in ribosomes and Golgi bodies and apical clusters of large ...

The role of plasma membrane fluidity in the regulation of kidney tubule water permeability has been uncertain. We have used new methods to image the fluorescence anisotropy of fluidity-sensitive fluorophores (Fushimi, Dix, and Verkman. Biophys. J.

Hypokinesia (decreased motor activity) induces significant morphological changes in the kidneys, but little is known about the effect of hypokinesia (HK) on the collecting duct nuclei of the kidney. The aim of this study was to measure the effect of prolonged HK on the nuclear size in the inner meduallary collecting ducts on the kidney of rats. Studies

Hypokinesia (reduced motor activity) induces significant tissue morphological changes, however, it is not known if hypokinesia (HK) could contribute to morphological changes in the kidney. Measuring the nuclear size in the inner medullary collecting ducts on the kidney of rats the aim of this investigation was to disclose kidney morphological changes ...

The kidney is a composite organ, the specific activities of which are attributable to the peculiar construction of the individual components of the glomerula, nephrons and collecting tubules. This comprehensive review will address the essential physiological mechanisms of urine formation, such as filtration, secretion, reabsorption and concentration ...

Taking into account recent results obtained with isolated papillary collecting duct cells the metabolic pathways and membrane transport systems of collecting duct cells are reviewed. The plasma membranes contain a luminal proton AT-Pase and a contraluminal Cl-/HCO3- exchanger which are involved in proton secretion; a luminal sodium channel and a ...

Surface Epithelia. Simple Columnar Epithelium. Example: Collecting Tubule of the Rat Kidney
1985In the upper part of the plate, an interlobular artery (1) is depicted with an afferent (2) and efferent (3) arteriole. A nephron, the parts of which arerenal corpuscle (4), proximal tubule (5), thin segment (6), distal tubule (7), and connecting portion (8)—is joined to a collecting tubule (9), which is lined with simple columnar epithelium (10).
