Measurements, errors, and negative kinetic energy [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review A, 1993
An analysis of errors in measurement yields new insight into the penetration of quantum particles into classically forbidden regions. In addition to ``physical" values, realistic measurements yield ``unphysical" values which, we show, can form a consistent pattern.

Field induced magnetic transition and metastability in Co substituted $Mn_{2}Sb$ [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
A detailed investigation of first order ferrimagnetic (FRI) to antiferromagnetic (AFM) transition in Co (15%) doped $Mn_2Sb$ is carried out. These measurements demonstrate anomalous thermomagnetic irreversibility and glass-like frozen FRI phase at low ...

Universal scaling of the elliptic flow data at RHIC [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Recent PHOBOS measurements of the excitation function for the pseudo-rapidity dependence of elliptic flow in Au+Au collisions at RHIC, have posed a significant theoretical challenge.

Superconducting Films for Absorber-Coupled MKID Detectors for Sub-Millimeter and Far-Infrared Astronomy [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
We describe measurements of the properties, at dc, gigahertz, and terahertz frequencies, of thin (10 nm) aluminum films with 10 ohm/{rm square}$ normal state sheet resistance.

Direct measurement of nitrous oxide kinetics [PDF]

open access: yesBritish Journal of Anaesthesia, 2012
Using conscious subjects, measurement of the effects of low concentrations of anaesthetic agents can allow the dynamics of onset and offset of the agent to be measured and kinetic values estimated. However, the tests have to be rapid and preferably assess cerebral function. We used a short version of the digit symbol substitution test (DSST) that ...

THE KINETICS OF CHOLINESTERASES MEASURED FLUOROMETRICALLY [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Histochemistry & Cytochemistry, 1966
A new, simple, sensitive method is described for the fluorometric assay of cholinesterase activity based upon the hydrolysis of 1-naphthyl esters and the measurement of the fluorescence of 1-naphthol. This allows the study of the kinetics of cholinesterases and inhibitors with histochemical substrates and permits assessment of the parameters of the ...

Kinetic Limitations Affect Cloud Condensation Nuclei Activity Measurements Under Low Supersaturation

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, 2023
The commercial continuous‐flow streamwise thermal‐gradient cloud condensation nuclei (CCN) counter is widely used in aerosol CCN activity measurements which are critical for investigating aerosol‐cloud interactions.

Kinetic‐Scale Turbulence in the Venusian Magnetosheath

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, 2021
While not specifically designed as a planetary mission, NASA's Parker Solar Probe (PSP) mission uses a series of Venus gravity assists (VGAs) in order to reduce its perihelion distance.

Parametric, Semiparametric, and Semi-Nonparametric Estimates of the Kinetic Energy of Ordered Air Motion and Wind Outliers in the Atmospheric Boundary Layer from Minisodar Measurements

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2023
In the present work, we analyze the spatiotemporal dynamics of the kinetic wind energy with and without allowance for the kinetic energy of outliers. We first separated the contributions of the mean kinetic energy and the kinetic energy of the outliers ...

Kinetic measurements during transient film growth on zinc

open access: yesQuímica Nova, 2009
The electrochemical behaviour of zinc has been extensively studied in alkaline and acid media, but only a few studies have been reported in neutral solutions, particularly in deaerated media. Zinc passivation in neutral medium and the effect of the ClO4-
