Osteolipoma of the knee

open access: yesRadiology Case Reports, 2017
A case of a right knee intra-articular osteolipoma in a 64-year-old man is reported. The patient presented for evaluation of a 1-year history of nontraumatic, mechanically-exacerbated, medial-sided right knee pain. Radiographs demonstrated a partially calcified 3.0 cm mass anterior to the distal medial femur at the suprapatellar fossa.

Models for the Origin of the Knee in the Cosmic-Ray Spectrum [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
A sudden steepening of the cosmic-ray energy spectrum (the knee) is observed at an energy of about 3 PeV (1 PeV = $10^{15}$ eV). The experimental study of the PeV cosmic rays has intensified greatly during the last 3 years. The recent results on extensive air showers allow us to conclude that: a) the knee has an astrophysical origin; b) the `sharpness'

Knee Cartilage Defect Assessment by Graph Representation and Surface Convolution [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2022
Knee osteoarthritis (OA) is the most common osteoarthritis and a leading cause of disability. Cartilage defects are regarded as major manifestations of knee OA, which are visible by magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Thus early detection and assessment for knee cartilage defects are important for protecting patients from knee OA.

Knee osteoarthritis has doubled in prevalence since the mid-20th century

open access: yesProceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States of America, 2017
Significance Knee osteoarthritis is a highly prevalent, disabling joint disease with causes that remain poorly understood but are commonly attributed to aging and obesity.

The trochanteric double contour is a valuable landmark for assessing femoral offset underestimation on standard radiographs: a retrospective study

open access: yesBMC Musculoskeletal Disorders, 2021
Background Inaccurate projection on standard pelvic radiographs leads to the underestimation of femoral offset—a critical determinant of postoperative hip function—during total hip arthroplasty (THA) templating.

Effect of Intra-articular Triamcinolone vs Saline on Knee Cartilage Volume and Pain in Patients With Knee Osteoarthritis: A Randomized Clinical Trial

open access: yesJournal of the American Medical Association (JAMA), 2017
Importance Synovitis is common and is associated with progression of structural characteristics of knee osteoarthritis. Intra-articular corticosteroids could reduce cartilage damage associated with synovitis but might have adverse effects on cartilage ...

Cosmic ray composition and energy spectrum above 1 TeV: direct and EAS measurements [PDF]

open access: yesNucl.Phys.Proc.Suppl. 97 (2001) 35-47, 2000
The most recent experimental results on the cosmic ray composition and energy spectrum above 1 TeV are reviewed and discussed. All data agree on the presence of the so-called ``knee'' at an energy E(knee) = 3-4 PeV; the knee is seen in all the components of the Extensive Air Showers.

Self-reported functional recovery after reconstruction versus repair in acute anterior cruciate ligament rupture (ROTOR): a randomized controlled clinical trial

open access: yesBMC Musculoskeletal Disorders, 2018
Background Anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction is today’s surgical gold standard for ACL rupture. Although it provides satisfactory results, not all patients return to their previous activity level and moreover, early posttraumatic ...

A Search for Fine Structure of the Knee in EAS Size Spectra [PDF]

open access: yesAstropart.Phys. 17 (2002) 13-22, 2001
28 size spectra of extensive air showers from 7 different experiments are analysed consistently. They are fitted by adjusting either 4 or 5 parameters: knee position, power law exponents above and below the knee, overall intensity and, in addition, a parameter describing the smoothness of the bend.

EULAR Recommendations 2003: an evidence based approach to the management of knee osteoarthritis: Report of a Task Force of the Standing Committee for International Clinical Studies Including Therapeutic Trials (ESCISIT)

open access: yesAnnals of the Rheumatic Diseases, 2003
Objectives: To update the EULAR recommendations for management of knee osteoarthritis (OA) by an evidence based medicine and expert opinion approach. Methods: The literature search and guidelines were restricted to treatments for knee OA pertaining to ...
