Sialic Acid-Containing Glycans as Cellular Receptors for Ocular Human Adenoviruses: Implications for Tropism and Treatment

open access: yesViruses, 2019
Human adenoviruses (HAdV) are the most common cause of ocular infections. Species B human adenovirus type 3 (HAdV-B3) causes pharyngoconjunctival fever (PCF), whereas HAdV-D8, -D37, and -D64 cause epidemic keratoconjunctivitis (EKC). Recently, HAdV-D53, -

Multiferroic‐Centric Materials and Systems Engineering for Battery Applications: An Insight Into Mechanisms, Strategies, and Characterizations

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Multiferroic order parameters – polarization, magnetization, and ferroelastic strain – are positioned as dynamic design variables for batteries. Their mechanistic roles, practical tuning through fabrication and external fields, and ferroic‐resolved characterization routes are unified into a closed‐loop framework, revealing how coupled ferroic responses

Interacting Parallel Fluidic Hysterons

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The parallel coupling of fluidic hysterons is introduced, establishing advanced functionalities in inflatable soft systems. A pressure–volume framework reveals how preset volumes Δv∗${\Delta }v^*$ tune nonlinear interactions between hysterons and actuation sequences without changing architecture. Experiments validate the predictions, opening new routes

Construction of Metabolically Biotinylated Adenovirus with Deleted Fiber Knob as Targeting Vector

open access: yesVirology Journal, 2010
Gene delivery vectors based on adenovirus, particularly human adenovirus serotype 5 (hAd5) have great potential for the treatment of variety of diseases. However, the tropism of hAd5 needs to be modified to achieve tissue- or cell- specific therapies for

Beyond Potency: Emerging Determinants and Optimization Strategies Enhancing Therapeutic Efficacy of Adult Stem Cells

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Adult stem cell therapy requires more than high in vitro potency. This review proposes a systems framework in which cell‐intrinsic programs, instructive microenvironmental cues, and pre‐/post‐delivery engineering are co‐designed under standardized translational rules.

A Mutational Analysis of Residues in Cholera Toxin A1 Necessary for Interaction with Its Substrate, the Stimulatory G Protein Gsα

open access: yesToxins, 2015
Pathogenesis of cholera diarrhea requires cholera toxin (CT)-mediated adenosine diphosphate (ADP)-ribosylation of stimulatory G protein (Gsα) in enterocytes. CT is an AB5 toxin with an inactive CTA1 domain linked via CTA2 to a pentameric receptor-binding

Large‐Diameter DNA‐Scaffolded Nanopores Enabled by Loosely Packed Peptides for Single‐Molecule Sensing

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
A nanopore composed of transmembrane peptides and a DNA scaffold that assists peptide assembly was constructed. By employing peptides containing the unnatural amino acid 2‐aminoisobutyric acid (Aib), which promotes loose packing between helices, a large‐diameter nanopore was achieved.
