Phylogenetic Analysis of Thymidin Kinase Gene Koi HerpesVirus (KHV) in Some Freshwater Fish Aquaculture Centers in East Java [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Koi Herpesvirus ( KHV ) is a virus that infects goldfish and koi that resulted in mass death and cause economic and social losses. The use of Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) technique to detect KHV was done in nila and gurame.

Formalin‐fixed paraffin‐embedded (FFPE) samples help to investigate transcriptomic responses in wildlife disease

open access: yesMolecular Ecology Resources, Volume 25, Issue 5, July 2025.
Abstract Infectious diseases impact numerous organisms. Knowledge of host‐pathogen interactions and host responses to infection is crucial for conservation and management. Obtaining this knowledge quickly is made increasingly possible by a variety of genomic approaches, yet, for many species the bottleneck to understanding this, remains access to ...

Gene Cloning and Protein Expression of Koi Herpesvirus ORF25

open access: yesHayati Journal of Biosciences, 2016
Koi herpesvirus (KHV) caused significant morbidity and mortality in koi and common carp (Cyprinus carpio). Glycoprotein has been used for vaccine development as sub unit vaccine against many viruses. KHV ORF25 is one of koi herpesvirus genes which encode

Identification of envelope protein pORF81 of koi herpesvirus

open access: yesJournal of General Virology, 2008
Koi herpesvirus (KHV), an emerging pathogen causing mass mortality in koi and common carp, possesses the largest known herpesvirus genome of 295 kbp predicted to encode 156 different proteins. However, none of them has been identified or functionally characterized up to now.

Koi herpesvirus and carp edema virus threaten common carp aquaculture in Croatia.

open access: yesJournal of Fish Diseases, 2020
Common carp (Cyprinus carpio) is a very important fish species for warm-water aquaculture in Croatia. All Croatian carp farms are subjected to a surveillance programme for the presence of koi herpesvirus (KHV), causing a deadly disease called koi ...

The Future of Pathogen Detection in Aquaculture: Miniature Labs, Field‐Compatible Assays, environmental DNA and RNA, CRISPR and Metatranscriptomics

open access: yesAquaculture, Fish and Fisheries, Volume 5, Issue 3, June 2025.
ABSTRACT Inland recirculating aquaculture is a thriving food industry providing sustainable and locally sourced high‐quality protein. However, its expansion is accompanied by emerging challenges regarding the spread of pathogens and diseases. Detection and management of pathogens in aquaculture remain underdeveloped compared to other animal farming ...

The Current State of Knowledge of the Economic Impact of Diseases in Global Aquaculture

open access: yesReviews in Aquaculture, Volume 17, Issue 3, June 2025.
ABSTRACT Aquaculture has been rapidly growing over the past few decades and has become an important contributor to global food security. As production increases, the intensification of production increases the risk of disease outbreaks. Infections caused by viral, bacterial, and parasitic pathogens represent a major threat to farm economy and growth ...

Quick detection of Carassius auratus herpesvirus (CaHV) by recombinase-aid amplification lateral flow dipstick (RAA-LFD) method

open access: yesFrontiers in Cellular and Infection Microbiology, 2022
Crucian carp (Carassius auratus) is one of the major freshwater species and is also a common food fish in China. Recently, Carassius auratus herpesvirus (CaHV) could induce fatal viral disease with high mortality of crucian carp, which had caused huge ...

Carp Larvae Are Not Susceptible to Koi Herpesvirus

open access: yesFish Pathology, 2007
The susceptibility of carp Cyprinus carpio to koi herpesvirus (KHV) was examined by experimental infections. Larvae of two strains of common carp were exposed to KHV by immersing the fish in water containing the virus at a dose of 101.6TCID50/mL measured using KF-1 cells.
