Sulfuric acid bleaching of kraft pulp 1: Bleaching of hardwood and softwood kraft pulps
To develop a new nonchlorine bleaching technology, hardwood and softwood kraft pulps, before and after oxygen-alkali predelignification, were treated with dilute sulfuric acid solutions (pH 1.0-1.8) at 100°C for 1 h and then extracted with aqueous sodium hydroxide at 70°C for l h. Hardwood kraft pulp was successfully bleached.

Two novel bio‐based epoxy monomers, diglycidyl‐4‐allylphenol (DG‐4A) and triglycidyl‐diallylphenol (TG‐DA), derived from estragole (92% and 72% bio‐content), were synthesized and cured with isophorone diamin (IPDA) and 4,4´‐diaminodiphenyl sulfone (DDS). The resins show high Tgs, with DG‐4A reaching and TG‐DA exceeding DGEBA‐based systems. These resins

Low‐Hysteresis Cellulose‐Based Hydrogels for Strain Detecting
Low‐hysteresis hydrogel with high cellulose content is prepared. The modified cellulose is prepared through a sequential periodate oxidation and borohydride reduction process. The hydrogel can be used as a strain sensor with a gauge factor of 1.1 in the 0%–300% sensing range.

A stable and reusable biocatalyst, cellulase@Cs/PVA/Ga, is engineered by immobilizing cellulase onto glutaraldehyde‐activated chitosan (Cs) and coating it with polyvinyl alcohol. This composite system enhances enzymatic stability and efficiency for the sustainable deinking of recycled newspaper, offering a green alternative to harsh chemical treatments.

Enhancing the Functional Properties of Polylactic Acid by Incorporation of Esterified Lignin
Esterified lignin from agro‐industrial wastes enhances the hydrophobicity, UV‐shielding efficiency, and antioxidant capacity of polylactic acid composites. ABSTRACT Incorporating lignin as an additive is a promising strategy to overcome the limitations of PLA‐based composites.

On the Origins of Out‐of‐Plane Auxetic Response in Paper
Paper can be auxetic! Paper can exhibit a range of out‐of‐plane Poisson's ratio (PR) values. Examining handsheets made from hardwood (HW) and softwood (SW) fibers, of a variety of weights (1, 3, or 5 g) and refining degrees (none, R, or R+), showed that the sign and magnitude of PR can be finely controlled by modifying network parameters.
