KRAFT AND MODIFIED KRAFT PULPING OF BAMBOO (PHYLLOSTACHYS BAMBUSOIDES)

open access: yesDrewno. Prace Naukowe, Doniesienia, Komunikaty = Wood. Research Papers, Reports, Announcements, 2017
Delignification of bamboo (Phyllostachys bambusoides) grown in the Eastern Black Sea region of Turkey was carried out by kraft, kraft-anthraquinone (AQ) and kraft-sodium borohydride (NaBH4) pulping under a variety of conditions to determine the effect of AQ, NaBH4 and cooking parameters on pulp and paper properties such as yield, kappa number ...

DISPLACEMENT WASHING OF KRAFT PULP WITH VARIOUS CONSISTENCY

open access: yesCellulose Chemistry and Technology, 2020
The paper deals with the displacement washing of kraft softwood and hardwood pulps with various consistency of the pulp fibre bed. The results obtained revealed differences between the two types of kraft pulp with various morphological properties of fibres. The washing efficiency decreased with decreasing Péclet number for both kraft pulps, but, due to

On the Origins of Out‐of‐Plane Auxetic Response in Paper

open access: yesphysica status solidi (b), Volume 263, Issue 5, May 2026.
Paper can be auxetic! Paper can exhibit a range of out‐of‐plane Poisson's ratio (PR) values. Examining handsheets made from hardwood (HW) and softwood (SW) fibers, of a variety of weights (1, 3, or 5 g) and refining degrees (none, R, or R+), showed that the sign and magnitude of PR can be finely controlled by modifying network parameters.

Process for purification of waste water produced by a Kraft process pulp and paper mill [PDF]

open access: yes, 1979
The water from paper and pulp wastes obtained from a mill using the Kraft process is purified by precipitating lignins and lignin derivatives from the waste stream with quaternary ammonium compounds, removing other impurities by activated carbon produced

Comparative Evaluation of Additives in Softwood Fractionation: Impacts on Lignin Recovery and Pulp Quality

open access: yesChemSusChem, Volume 19, Issue 8, 28 April 2026.
Chemical lignin stabilization during acid hydrotropic fractionation is shown to distinctly influence delignification, lignin quality, and pulp performance. Phenol enhances lignin removal, while thiol‐based modifier yields light‐colored lignin, high recovery, and strong pulp.

From Hemp Bast to Lyocell Fiber: Sustainable Process Optimization for Lyocell‐Grade Dissolving Pulp

open access: yesJournal of Applied Polymer Science, Volume 143, Issue 16, April 20, 2026.
This study presents a sustainable method to produce lyocell‐grade dissolving pulp from Canadian hemp bast fibers. A simplified alkali‐chelation‐bleaching process, free from sulfur and chlorine, yielded high α‐cellulose pulp with low lignin and hemicellulose content. The pulp was successfully spun into continuous hemp‐based lyocell fibers, demonstrating

A Study of the Feasibility of Using a Pulping Aid with Polysulfide Kraft Cooks [PDF]

open access: yes, 1970
The purpose of this paper was to determine the feasibility of using a pulping aid with a polysulfide kraft cook. Since any change in an operation such as pulping must yield a product such that the quality is better or not appreciably reduced and at the ...

Thermal Stabilization of Chitosan Yarn for Carbon Fiber Production

open access: yesJournal of Applied Polymer Science, Volume 143, Issue 13, April 5, 2026.
This study explores chitosan, a biopolymer derived from chitin, as a renewable precursor for carbon fiber production. The authors demonstrate that chitosan fibers can be successfully stabilized under controlled thermal conditions in air and nitrogen.
