The order-disorder phase transition in kscn

Ferroelectrics, 1991
Abstract The order-disorder phase transition in KSCN near 417.5 K, which is connected with the head-tail orientation of the linear SCN-molecules, is investigated by diffuse neutron scattering techniques. The results show a transition from a long range ordered structure to a short range ordered state which persists up to temperatures near the melting ...

Solution growth of large, high quality KSCN crystals

Journal of Crystal Growth, 1989
Abstract Acetone turned out to be a proper solvent for the growth of large high quality KSCN crystals. A method for the purification of the solution is described together with an experimental set-up for the growth. The habit of the crystals is significantly different for crystals grown out of acetone and out of methanol.

The vibrational spectrum of crystalline KSCN

Journal of Applied Spectroscopy, 1965
The spectrum is reported for the range 700 to 5000 cm−1; the internal modes of the SCN− ion are interpreted in terms of the Cs local symmetry group. The combinations of internal and external (lattice) modes are examined in terms of theD2h factor group. The frequency of the translational mode is found to be 20 cm−1.

Computer simulation of diffuse scattering from KSCN crystal

Phase Transitions, 1996
Abstract The diffuse scattering functions for two-dimensional model of KSCN crystal has been studied by the moleculx-dynamics simulation technique. We show that below the tetragonal orthorhombic phase transition the width of the diffuse peak remains temperature independent, although its intensity increases when the temperature approaches Tc from below.

New data on the phase transition in KSCN

Ferroelectrics, 1988
Abstract The structural phase transition in single crystals of KSCN which can be classified as improper ferroelastic, has been investigated by accurate birefringence measurements, Brillouin scattering and far infrared spectroscopy. The optical study showed the transition to be of first order.

Far infrared spectroscopy of the phase transition in KSCN

Ferroelectrics, 1990
Abstract Polarized reflectivity and transmissivity of KSCN were measured in the spectral range 6–650 cm−1 and temperature region 15–430 K. The absorption at ν < 100 cm−1 for temperatures down to 100-200 K is several times greater than it would follow from t fit of the reflectivity to a sum of classical oscillators.

Dynamic Acoustic Anomalies in KSCN Near the Improper Ferroelastic Phase Transition

Ferroelectrics, 2005
The tensor of the elastic stiffness constants Cij of potassium thiocyanate (KSCN) has been measured in the temperature range 290 K to 420 K, including the order-disorder phase transition at 415 K, by the ultrasonic pulse echo overlap method at frequencies f = 20 MHz.

Birefringence study of the 415 K phase transition in KSCN

Journal of Physics: Condensed Matter, 1990
KSCN shows an order-disorder phase transition at 415 K. Accurate measurements of the birefringence in the temperature range from room temperature to 420 K support the validity of the Ising model with volume-dependent interactions. The temperature dependence of the birefringence is well correlated with the structural changes as predicted by the ...
