Macrophage LAMTOR1 Deficiency Prevents Dietary Obesity and Insulin Resistance Through Inflammation-Induced Energy Expenditure

open access: yesFrontiers in Cell and Developmental Biology, 2021
Here, we studied the metabolic function of LAMTOR1 from macrophages using LAMTOR1 macrophage-specific knockout (MKO) mice. LAMTOR1 MKO mice showed resistance to high-fat diet (HFD)-induced obesity, lipid steatosis, and glucose metabolic disorders, with ...

Kupffer cells modulate iron homeostasis in mice via regulation of hepcidin expression

open access: yes, 2007
Hepcidin, a small cationic liver derived peptide, is a master regulator of body iron homeostasis. Cytokines and iron availability have so far been identified as regulators of hepcidin expression.

Inhibition of Kupffer Cell Activity Improves Transplantation of Human Adipose-Derived Stem Cells and Liver Functions

open access: yesCell Transplantation, 2013
Numerous approaches to cell transplantation of the hepatic or the extrahepatic origin into liver tissue have been developed; however, the efficiency of cell transplantation remains low and liver functions are not well corrected.

Identification of Plasmodium GAPDH epitopes for generation of antibodies that inhibit malaria infection

open access: yesLife Science Alliance, 2018
This study reports on the identification of two Plasmodium GAPDH epitope peptides that are responsible for sporozoite–Kupffer cell interaction and act as antigens against malaria infection.

Turning Unpredictable Biomolecule Adsorption to Controlled Corona Formation: Focus on Carbon Nanomaterials

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Controlling the protein corona formation onto carbon nanomaterials (CNMs) enhances their functionalities as platforms for cancer theranostics. Here, we reviewed the effects of the intrinsic and acquired properties of CNMs on protein corona formation, the consequent biological and toxicological outcomes, and the strategies to reshape corona formation ...

Single-cell RNA transcriptome landscape of hepatocytes and non-parenchymal cells in healthy and NAFLD mouse liver

open access: yesiScience, 2021
Summary: Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is a global health-care problem with limited therapeutic options. To obtain a cellular resolution of pathogenesis, 82,168 single-cell transcriptomes (scRNA-seq) across different NAFLD stages were profiled,

Minimally Invasive Delivery of Optical Nanosensors Using Injectable Hydrogels

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
Injectable peptide hydrogels offer a minimally invasive delivery platform for single‐walled carbon nanotube (SWCNT)‐based near‐infrared fluorescent sensors, enabling real‐time measurement of drug concentrations. Encapsulated SWCNTs show a dose‐dependent fluorescence response across physiologically relevant concentrations and retain their fluorescence ...

Incorporation of Novel Synthetic Glycolipids in Liposomal Nanoparticles Affects Opsonization and In Vivo Clearance

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
We prepared five glycosylated liposomal nanoparticles (G‐LNPs) to investigate the role of glycosylation and protein corona in modulating the in vivo behavior of G‐LNPs. We show that IgG and complement C3 adsorption enhanced liposomal nanoparticle clearance, with IgG promoting subsequent C3 binding.
