Role of arginine and its methylated derivatives in cancer biology and treatment

open access: yesCancer Cell International, 2001
Both L-arginine supplementation and deprivation influence cell proliferation. The effect of high doses on tumours is determined by the optical configuration: L-arginine is stimulatory, D-arginine inhibitory.

The Pharmacodynamics of L-Arginine [PDF]

open access: yesThe Journal of Nutrition, 2007
L-arginine is a precursor for nitric oxide (NO) synthesis. NO is a ubiquitous mediator that is formed by a family of enzymes named NO synthases. In the brain, NO acts as a neurotransmitter; in the immune system, NO acts as a mediator of host defense; and in the cardiovascular system, NO mediates the protective effects of the intact endothelium, acting ...

Mechanistic target of rapamycin (mTOR) activation during ruminant mammary development and function : a thesis presented in partial fulfilment of the requirements for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in Animal Science at Massey University, Palmerston North, New Zealand [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
This thesis examines the abundance of total and activated mechanistic target of rapamycin (mTOR) pathway components in the developing and functional ruminant mammary gland. mTOR pathway activation is stimulated by a wide range of intra- and extracellular

Индуцирование синтеза NO в корнях проростков пшеницы и развития их теплоустойчивости экзогенными L-аргинином и нитратом [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Показано, что обработка корней интактных проростков пшеницы (Triticum aestivum L.) L-аргинином и нитратом натрия вызывает увеличение в них содержания оксида азота (NO) и повышает устойчивость к повреждающему прогреву.

The role of histone modifications in transcription regulation upon DNA damage

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This review discusses the critical role of histone modifications in regulating gene expression during the DNA damage response (DDR). By modulating chromatin structure and recruiting repair factors, these post‐translational modifications fine‐tune transcriptional programmes to maintain genomic stability.

Concanavalin A-Binding Enzymes of Crotalus scutulatus scutulatus Venom [PDF]

open access: yes, 1985
Crotalus scutulatus scutulatus crude venom was separated into two fractions by Concanavalin A Sepharose 4B affinity chromatography. The proteins binding to Con A exhibited phosphomonoesterase (orthophosphoric monoester phosphohydrolase EC 3.1.3.2 ...

Role of nitric oxide on the electrophysiological properties of isolated rabbit atrioventricular node by extracellular field potential during atrial fibrillation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Introduction: The aim of the present study was to determine direct effects of NO modulation on protective electrophysiological properties of atrioventricular node (AV node) in the experimental model of AF in rabbit.

Encapsulation performance of layer-by-layer microcapsules for proteins [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
This study reports on the encapsulation efficiency of proteins in dextran sulfate/poly-l-arginine-based microcapsules, fabricated via layer-by-layer assembly (LbL).

Sequence determinants of RNA G‐quadruplex unfolding by Arg‐rich regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We show that Arg‐rich peptides selectively unfold RNA G‐quadruplexes, but not RNA stem‐loops or DNA/RNA duplexes. This length‐dependent activity is inhibited by acidic residues and is conserved among SR and SR‐related proteins (SRSF1, SRSF3, SRSF9, U1‐70K, and U2AF1).

l-Arginine Uptake by Cationic Amino Acid Transporter Promotes Intra-Macrophage Survival of Leishmania donovani by Enhancing Arginase-Mediated Polyamine Synthesis

open access: yesFrontiers in Immunology, 2017
The survival of intracellular protozoan parasite, Leishmania donovani, the causative agent of Indian visceral leishmaniasis (VL), depends on the activation status of macrophages. l-Arginine, a semi-essential amino acid plays a crucial regulatory role for
