A eutectic high-entropy alloy coating of novel hard-surface and soft-core structure with improved tribological properties

open access: yesJournal of Materials Research and Technology, 2023
Structures with a hard surface and soft core have always been the goal of surface-coating technology. In this study, this goal was achieved in a eutectic high-entropy alloy (EHEA) surface by using aging treatment at elevated temperature. The EHEA surface

Dislocation‐Mediated Lattice Distortion and Griffiths Phase Behavior in Melt‐Spun Ni2MnSb Ribbons

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This figure illustrates how melt‐spinning introduces dislocations into Ni2MnSb Heusler alloys. TEM images reveal local lattice distortions and associated strain fields surrounding dislocations at a representative wheel speed. As wheel speed increases, these distortions promote the formation of ferromagnetic clusters within a paramagnetic matrix ...

Maternal Selenium-Enriched Yeast Supplementation in Sows Enhances Offspring Growth and Antioxidant Status through the Nrf2/Keap1 Pathway

open access: yesAntioxidants, 2023
This study evaluated the effects of maternal selenium-enriched yeast (SeY) supplementation during late gestation and lactation on sow performance, transfer of selenium (Se) and redox status, and gut microbiota community, as well as on the gut health of ...

Robustness of Half‐Metallicity and Spin‐Dependent Transport in Defective Co2HfSn and Co2ZrSn Heusler Alloys

open access: yesAdvanced Electronic Materials, EarlyView.
Point defects strongly influence the spin‐dependent electronic and transport properties of Co2HfSn and Co2ZrSn Heusler alloys. First‐principles calculations reveal that Co vacancies preserve half‐metallicity, while anti‐site and swap defects introduce minority‐spin states that reduce spin selectivity.

The Arabidopsis chloroplast ribosomal protein L21 is encoded by a nuclear gene of mitochondrial origin [PDF]

open access: yesGene, 2001
Many chloroplast genes of cyanobacterial origin have been transferred to the nucleus during evolution and their products are re-addressed to chloroplasts. The RPL21 gene encoding the plastid r-protein L21 has been lost in higher plant chloroplast genomes after the divergence from bryophytes.
