Statistical Modeling in L3/L n Acquisition

open access: yes, 2022
This chapter introduces Bayesian data analysis and shows how such an approach can better deal with the intricacies of L n acquisition data. The data analyzed is simulated based on Rothman (2010) to demonstrate how we can use Bayesian models to estimate variables of interest in R.

Effects of Mg on Microstructure and Solidification of a Hypereutectic Zn–8 wt.%Al Alloy

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
An appreciable set of results involving thermal data, microstructure, chemical composition, and microstructural growth laws is reported for ZnAlMg alloys. Such results demonstrate that ZnAlMg alloys have high potential for applications in automotive self‐lubricating components, batteries, and electrical systems.

Cognitive approaches to L3 acquisition

open access: yesInternational Journal of English Studies, 2012
Multilingualism has established itself as an area of systematic research in linguistic studies over the last two decades. The multilingual phenomenon can be approached from different perspectives: educational, formal linguistic, neurolinguistic, psycholinguistic and sociolinguistic, among others.

A Multi‐Scale Machine Learning Framework for the Inverse Design of High Entropy Alloys

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
High‐entropy alloys offer vast potential for various applications, including electrocatalysis; however, their compositional complexity challenges conventional screening. We introduce an inverse‐design framework combining two neural networks to determine optimal compositions and reconstruct nanoparticle geometry from targeted properties and conventional

Multilingual Assessment of Primary School Pupils in the Hungarian Context

open access: yesActa Academiae Beregsasiensis, Philologica
Multilingual approaches to teaching and learning are linked to significant benefits at the linguistic and metalinguistic levels in the European context. The study is based on the Dynamic Model of Multilingualism.

Disentangling Bulk and Surface Contributions to Charge and Discharge Fading in High‐Voltage LiCoO2

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
High‐voltage operation of LiCoO2 accelerates capacity fading through bulk and surface degradation. By introducing a LiTaO3 coating to selectively suppress surface degradation, bulk and surface contributions to charge and discharge fading are decoupled.

Acquisition of the Tap-Trill Contrast by L1 Mandarin–L2 English–L3 Spanish Speakers

open access: yesLanguages, 2018
The goals of this study were to investigate the developmental patterns of acquisition of the Spanish tap and trill by L1 Mandarin⁻L2 English⁻L3 Spanish speakers, and to examine the extent to which the L1 and the L2 influenced the L3 ...

Microscale Patterning of Ultrahigh‐Viscosity Metallic‐Polymer Composites via Embedded Droplet Writing

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A hybrid additive manufacturing platform integrates direct droplet writing of metallic composite with VAT photopolymerization to fabricate architected soft magnetic composites. This approach enables microscale patterning of high‐viscosity materials for programmable actuators, adaptive fluidic devices, and switchable adhesives, offering tunable ...

Hybrid Ferroelectric Tunnel Junctions with Intrinsic Nonlinearity and Self‐Rectification via Interfacial Reconstruction

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Rapid thermal annealing reconstructs the BCFO/Nb:STO interface into an atomically thin reconstructed interfacial layer, which reshapes the tunneling barrier and converts a high‐TER ferroelectric tunnel junction into an intrinsically nonlinear, self‐rectifying device.

Memory systems modulate crosslinguistic influence on third language morphosyntactic acquisition.

open access: yesPLoS ONE
Previous studies on crosslinguistic influence (CLI) on third language (L3) morphosyntactic acquisition have provided support for competing theories about the source(s) of CLI.
